Yes, that’s why most if not all L1&2 struggle to survive without financial support in one form or another, be it Premier League hand downs or a wealthy backer. Players coming through Academies, whatever category , and selling for decent money or sell on clauses are pretty rare nowadays.

This is the a dig at Sparks post, or shouldn't be take that way... but how do we know he is actually doing a good job on the off the pitch commercial/finance side?

Again not a dig, but do we have anything to really to base it on? There's a narrative of he's fine with handling the commercial side, but based on what? Is it just because we are publicly broadcasting far more of our commercial deals now compared to never releasing statements on deals? We could be doing the same levels of commercial deals for all we know, it's just now there's PR behind it. Suppose we'd know from companies house records if they are fully published.

We certainly haven't seen the triumphant declarations of sponsorship this season compared to last. For all we know there could be an even bigger shortfall than expected and the real reason for the trip to Germany was to beg for money to plug the bigger than expected gap, and not just to head off the protest. I'm guessing that the player budget would've been on the floor without intervention from Rupp.
