Well if we can’t afford it and Gibb enforced the contract which expires in 2028 then administration would loom.

 

Where could we play, its not as if Gordon Gibb can just reduce the rent as the law says he has to get the best deal possible for the pension fund, would he drop the rent and pledge the difference in advertising, I don't think we'd survive and I certainly don't want to be proved correct.

I think Sparks was asked about the stadium in the summer and he gave a non-answer, kicking the can down the road type answer (shocking, i know). But it is something that needs addressing fairly soon. There were a few in the same boat when i looked last summer in Stockport, Swindon, Oxford & Barnsley were certainly ones who also expire around a similar time to ours.

Since then, Swindon and Stockport have bought their grounds, well, Stockports owner has a new lease for 250 years at £8k a year or something daft like that. Oxford have worked with the council and announced the plans for a new stadium. And this week, Barnsley signed their new lease for 30 more years after a few months of plans and negotiations from press bits. Seems like a topic that needs addressing soon-ish?

 

He could reduce the rent if the alternative was zero income. Although that would also give him the option of selling the ground for a fixed amount.
Would definitely get messy.
Ultimately Rupp is facilitating the slow painful regression of the club and depleting its value. He needs to either lower his demands and get onboard and fix the problems, quickly.

 

Sorry Jordan , that’s not my take on the summer interview with Sparks. From my best recollection he said “he was in regular contact with GG” (with regards to the lease) . That may be a non answer but it’s far and away better than I haven’t spoken to him during the last six years?

 

Call me crazy, but Rupp buying our stadium and haunting this club forevermore is not what I want.
