Saw that Derby picked up a winger from Charlton. Probably means they are less likely to sign Young. Anyway, not sure they would have had the cash to do a deal, they would probably be looking at some kind of loan and then pay x if promoted.

I dont disagree. Lewis was becoming a liability though but I concede his replacement is underwhelming.

Wright is a nice addition though and I would hope we see another couple - one at the back and another in the middle.

Young is back training now, should be no excuse if he isnt on the bench tonight other than we are trying to cash in. We shall see.

Win tonight, get something at Swindon on Saturday and the mood quickly changes.

Derby paid £300k for him. They are also in talks to sign target man Matt Smith from Sheff Weds on loan as they cant afford the fee.

Charlton banking that much might get them in a decent position to buy, but they also just brought in Freddie Ladapo from Ipswich to go with Alfie May, Chuks Aneke and Miles Leaburn who is a young striker with a decent L1 spell so far. Leaburn is out until towards the end of the season after hamstring surgery, but they already have him who is a 20 year old 6'5ft striker with 20 goals in 58 apps for them so far.... not sure they'd want to pay £500k+ for another young striker.

Yes, makes little sense for Charlton to splurge £500k on another striker when they are stacked. At worst, they need a 4th choice to cover Leaburn. Things will change if someone comes in for May though.

The only other alternative is Young goes out on loan - a modest financial reward with the hope he does something and increases his asking price but that's a risk and I very much doubt happens unless Young starts playing up.

I have a feeling he is on the bench tonight - we have given suitors and Young long enough to make something happen. A week of training, he is obviously fit and ready. GA has said enough times he wants him to stay and play. So no excuses now.

Lewis was night and day difference from this season to last. I thought he was picking back up form through late Nov and through to Jan, then the window opened and he seemed to fall in confidence again.

From the T&A articles throughout December, there was loads of talk of us moving on squad depth and bringing in 3 or 4 players of quality. But, it seemed we had a plan...... in execution so far it doesn't look like a plan has been followed. Walker was a needed reaction to losing Lewis and Wright, whilst being a good talent we all know, seems very reactionary to the atmosphere that week and I totally get why some fans see it as a PR transfer.

We've just over a week to ship out the remaining depth and bring in a few more quality faces. I think we lose a defender and a winger or two, then it's just what happens with Young. I really hope we aren't waiting to see if we get massive money for Young to approach some top talent. If so, we need to set a deadline on this move. We cant go into deadline day with a Young deal in the balance and the squad as is, just waiting to see if money rolls in. For me, we have a deadline of this Friday when the bus sets off to Swindon. If there's no move, he's on the bus and staying the season, comes back against Swindon. If there's a bid we've 5 or 6 days then to cash in and gives plenty of time to pull off some moves.

I am absolutely certain that Chapman, who I will assume is amongst the highest earners was on his way, but injuries to Walker and Pattison have probably scuppered those plans. Oduor could have been another, more than likely a loan.

I am going to give Sparks the benefit of the doubt on Wright. He did well last time, he was a player we wanted permanent and we tried to sign him in the summer (Bradford End confirmed that who is pretty well connected). He also fits the bill of a player that can cover multiple positions. I think he was on our radar regardless.

I think one of Chapman, Odour and Wilson will certainly go but GA wouldn't be against losing 2. I'd throw Pointon in there for an experience loan to the NL, but with his age he doesn't need registering and can be loaned out to the National League anytime up until March if he isn't getting gametime here, which I think Wright coming in really hurts his chances of.

I'm sure Wright never left our radar to be honest. We were probably in negotiations with them, guessing they were ramped up and Plymouth knew we were getting desperate for the deal as WOAP said we are paying a significant amount of his CH wages. A week (ish) to go and at the minute all we have to go on is another ex-player rumour. Which could be a good thing if we are playing our cards close to the chest.... or we could just be stalling until we know what we are doing with Young.

I thought Chappy was the Chappy of old at Derby, then at Colchester….meh, it was difficult.
I will be honest Colchesters plan was to stifle play , pack the defence and middle and hope for a break. Chappy was pretty poor as a result.
He always seems “down in the dumps” a bit like Odour. He will go at the season end ,or maybe you are right…this window. Lost faith in him and ability once again perhaps?

Well if it's off tonight due to the four strong winds they'll be training down by the river and out on the weekend at Swindon.

It's a £300k loan fee. BBC don't tend to print loan fees anyway. CBT refused to talk about a new contract and is out of contract in the summer. I think he had a £400K release clause, which Derby wouldn't pay but have paid a £300k loan fee.... go figure? Unless their loan fee go out a different budget? Christ knows.

With the club already under scrutiny can you imagine the flack they’ll get if Pointon is sent to the NL. There’s already upset that he isn’t starting for us.

I dont think he goes while Walker and Pattison injured. Id say Wilson or Oduor more likely now.

Other teams seem proactive in managing squads in January. We seem to limp along and end up with scraps instead of the big fish. Useless and its why we need new owners and CEO.

With us paying a lot of Wrights wages, there isn't a chance we bring him in to warm the bench. Pointon wont get in over Walker when fit, GA seems to like Odour and then there's Chapman back too on good money. Unfortunately at some point there will need to be a decision on his development, either sending him out to play every week on loan or bin off 2 of Odour, Chapman and Wilson and then make Pointon a weekly mainstay in the matchday 18. He's played 83 minutes of league football since GA went to the wing back setup and made 4 of the 10 matchday 18s, I think a loan move for development is a very real option.

The club should look to utilize Bobby as much as possible between now and the end of the season. He, along with Tyreik, is a fan favourite, so even if our season peters out (very, very likely) then that might soften the blow for at least some fans.

But what Graham 'I am definitely in charge' Alexander will be looking at is a late surge, and that late surge will be his priority until promotion is a mathematical impossibility. I don't really see him picking Pointon constantly based on what I've seen until maybe the last 2, 3 or 4 games, when the season is over, and by then it's too late for such damage limitation.

What I definitely wouldn't do is loan Pointon out. Fan favourites need to remain in-house, especially young lads like Pointon who might play an even bigger role next season.

But that strange article in the T&A speaks of real problems even this early in GA's tenure. I'm now doubting if everyone is on the same page, and imagining scenarios like this into existence. Whatever compelled GA to respond to questions about who is in charge and who is signing players, it's made it feel like the club has sunken even deeper into the mire, with even less direction than I assumed before.

My point was more about a backlash rather than whether he should actually be in the match day squad, as some believe he’s an automatic starter and won’t hear anything else.
