Just realised that Youngs family member that I used to work with has RSVP'd to a work drinks meetup on Friday in Leeds. If Youngs still here by then, I'll see if there's anything close to happening.

In my opinion, I think he leaves this week and we then have a few days calling around to bring in a target man on loan for 6 months who'll challenge for a bench spot. Just with the sheer amount of wingers/attacking mids we have compared to quality striker options, my thinking is that GA will stick to the 3421 setup and have Cook, Smith, Derbyshire (because nobody will take him) and loanee to cover up top. With Wright, Chapman, Walker, Pointon, Odour, Wilson & maybe Tulloch unless that one gets canned, to cover the 2 support roles. Although I'd guess probably 2 of Chapman, Odour, Wilson & Tulloch to be out the door on loan or perm by Feb 2nd, as they'll need to have the registration sorted out by then.

Save the Lewis and Young money for a summer rebuild.

I find the comment underneath more worrying Gary Bowyer being "in the frame" for the FGR managers job, we were a basket case but I'd think at the present time FGR beat us hands down.

You'll remember back in the day under BFG we loaned Wolves Dean Richards to help boost their promotion challenge Richmond asking for £100,000 for the privilege, Dean went helped them get their goal scoring twice (not bad for a center half) and was then sold to Wolves the following season.
Not suggesting that would be the case now with Derby as @Kevin1954@Kevin1954 says they are hemorrhaging money,. but a try before you buy at £100.000 till the end of the season may be tempting ?.

No doubt we will give it a go, but this squad hasn't shown the consistency or ability to challenge. Needs a massive kick in the arse for this lot to make up the gap and then keep the pace.

Having home games in hand is all well and good, if you can win at home. Think I saw over the weekend we have 28 wins from our last 81 home games, going back to the start of the 20/21 season. Being at home hasn't been the aid it should be.

You never give up till it's mathematically impossible but the performance's have not impressed me enough to think we will end up in the play off position's.
We rely to much on Andy Cook and I think that's our biggest problem.
The team in general don't know how to finish opponents off and it's costing us week in week out.
I don't subscribe to our returnee Young been the answer because in my opinion he's nothing but trouble and I don't trust him to deliver the goals we crave.
Wright I believe will give it a go but without more fire power and more creativity coming from midfield then I guess we are in for another season in League Two unfortunately.
Hope they can turn the season round but I'm not expecting miracles Park.

    28/81 is shocking.

did our record improve during Covid when crowds were barred? Would be interesting to know in relation to the ‘big crowds can hinder’ theory

I think your not far off according to Wiki : A permanent deal was quickly arranged for a fee which was initially £1.3 million but eventually rose to £1.8m once various clauses took effect

I've had a look at our stats since dropping into league 2

    W D L Pts PPG Position
    19/20 11 5 2 38 2.11 5
    20/21 9 7 7 34 1.48 14
    21/22 6 10 7 28 1.21 19
    22/23 9 10 4 37 1.61 10
    23/24 4 5 3 17 1.42

The only season we've got fewer points than the lockdown season was the 1st season back although this season we are currently on course to get lower. Our overall points per game average over the 99 home games is 1.56 but really that is boosted a lot due to the 19/20 season with Gary Bowyer as manager. We've also been in the top half of the home table in 2 of the 4 season and this season we will probably need 20 points from the last 11 home games to get top half home table.

I think now teams will look at this and come with confidence rather than fear

I wouldnt be surprised to see him leave, but if GA is true to his word that he is in his plans and will play, then we may see him on the bench tomorrow night. Clubs have had chance to meet our valuation.......

7pts off the play offs, Id be using that money now. Its a never ending cycle this waiting and rebuilding. Weve paid for our season tickets so they should be out there looking and investing NOW!

3 years ago we brought in Cook, and 2 years ago we brought in Walker. Hopefully we can find another gem that will give us that extra edge.

Cheers for looking that up. Suggests to me we just recruit the wrong players generally, rather than shrinking violets that particularly can’t handle the pressure of big crowds?

we could beat anyone at home under Parky with characters and big game players like Rory, Davo, Darbs, Jones and Hanson in that side.

we didnt lose many homes under Stuart ‘Mcdraw’ or Hughes, but drew too many under both and lacked ambition under the latter?

Bowyer, McCall, Adams, Hughes....all done stuff elsewhere but zip with us. There is a trend and I think you are right...

Sure, money was a factor, but Vernam, Watt and Paudie left us to play in front of crap crowds. A whole raft of players don't care about 17,000 people tbh - it doesnt seem to fire them up and like you say, probably dont like the pressure.

    Ha ha, some man!

Class that ‘tackle’. On the flip side, that thumping header against Villa brought a tear to my eye.

How, just how, can a manager like Parky get L2 players to a major cup final, yet so many of his successors can’t even beat tin pot outfits week on week in this cesspit of a division

Yes and we shouldn’t accept a penny less. Once again Carlisle trying to unsettle our player. If this carry’s on the EFL should intervene.
