As much as I think the wyke rumours are false. He’s best mates with Gillead and few others Smallwood etc. maybe with what’s he’s been through he just wants to play football & at any level of football players always want to play with there mates

 

My comment was more tongue in cheek. Yes, they are decent players. Should it be our priority however? I dont think so

I think our resources should be used to bring players in who can create chances, along with fixing our leaky defence. And then worry about adding extra firepower

 

I know the north east folk are a friendly bunch but I didnt know that all of them were pals with one another. We may as well bring back Tony McMahon an Jordan Pickford. Saves them a miniature fortune on travelling costs

Seems a funny one but Wyke himself is open to this move. So I guess it now becomes a case of how badly do Wigan want to keep him and how much of a wage cut is he willing to take to come back?

My own personal take is that with his health scares, at this stage of his career, he might just want to return to a ‘happy place’ and jump in that minibus they have with his mates to training everyday for a few fun years - maybe even get a promotion to boot and become a hero!

If this move happens then Smallwood needs a pat on the back - as well as Gent and Sparks if they can agree on a deal with Wigan.

Oliver showed promise last season. Well a bit of it. This season however, hes been completly off the boil. Positioning is all wrong an his timings when it comes to jumping for the ball is off.

Lets just remember that height doesn't equate to success in the air. Taylor is 6'6 I believe but Im fairly certain that Crichlow was a lot better in the air than him

Just remembered as well. Vincelot was 5'9, yet he was a lot better in the air than most of the centre backs weve had over the years

 

Wyke would fit as the rumoured returning player but why would he come?
He's scored 8 in 20 this season for Wigan who play in L1.
Wouldn't complain if he pitched up though.

 

I can't see it unless Young is leaving. As Wyke won't come to be a bench player, so it would be him and Cook up top, no idea where Wright fits in though if we drop this 1 striker and 2 support attackers to go to back a 10 and 2 strikers setup.

Looks like he's out of contract in the summer, so if this loan doesn't come off, I wouldn't be surprised to see him arrive in June.

I think @Bradford End said we are trying to bring back another former player. He has connections to the ticket office.
Wyke has six months left on his contract and isn't starting games for Wigan.

He scored for Wigan yesterday. Quite a few sub appearances. He isn't frozen out.

 

But would Cook and Wyke work? It would mean playing 442 or 532 and the former is very much out of fashion and the latter requires wingbacks which we don't have. And it would mean no place for Young if he were still with us.

 

Aren’t Wigan a financial disaster. Maybe they need to reduce their wage bill with a shared wage loan
