I don’t think he is dumb. He is quite smart on the acquisition of money. He lacks football experience. Selling of a player is a different ball game. Let’s imagine that the management team do not want to sell JY. We need him for our own ambitions, why would we sell him for a paltry £200k? As a I said on this thread way back I would not let him go for less than £500k, but I revised that up when @Jordan said that a similar striker to Jake was being sold for £1 million. My preference is that he stays, and I am not averse to giving him extra for being more malleable.

Ali Al-Hamadi is the other striker, from Wimbledon. Peterborough had a bid early in the window but it was reportedly well off the 7 figure fee they've slapped on him, I wonder if they'll try again once Clarke-Harris & Edwards leave and they get a few more million in the budget? Stoke were linked by Nixon too, but could be nonsense if it's him. He's away for the Asia cup too out in Qatar at the minute, so whoever is buying him (if Wimbledon sell) will have to fund and arrange an external medical out there as Iraq will qualify for the next round, he wont be back until well in Feb. I don't think he leaves Wimbledon this month, getting more convinced by the day that Young wont leave either.

 

I think this is sneaky from Simpson. It's clearly a message to try and push Young or his agent towards a deal. Every level of the pyramid, when the journalist does their job and asks about linked players, every manager up and down the leagues say something along the lines of "we aren't going to talk about player X as he isn't our player, but we like him". It's just the common thing to do as at the end of the day it's a business and you keep it professional.

To name him, knock the club for wanting a good sum of money and talk as if we are hindering his plan is a clear tactic to try and nerve Young into asking to leave. I don't think he'd be as happy if someone in the Champ said similar about Moxon, their young talent. The move of a manager who is probably feeling some pressure.

Great to see the club are actually hold their own and telling clubs no to ridiculous offers of £200-£300k. As I have said time and time again, these types of figures are pure delusion.

If the club were willing to accept 200k then they deserve every criticism directed at them.

That would be a scandalous amount to accept for a 22 year old who is still 2nd top scorer in the division.

 

Alternatively, maybe Young doesn't fancy a relegation fight and the prospect of league 2 football again next season, and Simpson is trying to save face with their fan base by making out we are asking too much for him.

Didn't Sparks turn down half a million for Lewis in the Summer then immediately sell him in January for about half that?

He'll ask for a million for Young now, then when he's not that good for us, sell him in the Summer for far less.

I mean, I don't care. The money Rupp makes us irrelevant to me. But the lad is worth whatever someone pays, and I can't see it being above 300,000.
