It may be that Winkleman thinks that now Kemp is playing for his Dons, all that’s missing is his buddy. Massive incoming bid from MKDons anytime soon. ;)

Hope they do, the sooner Young departs the better now. Its clear he has no intention of playing for us again.

He could have gone. Twice. Who from our side, has valued him? If we’re holding out for the maximum, it could go very wrong. Plus the knock on effect, meaning that any replacement lined up, probably depends on what we get for Young. As I said earlier, it’s gonna end up a last minute thing, accepting a lower value with no one coming the other way.

It's only gonna get harder anyway to attract decent players to a club with no ambitions .....

It’s nice they’ve all volunteered to play for free, they must really love the club.

In all seriousness though wages are far more important than transfer fees at this level, we’ve probably spent around £200k on Lewis’ wages whilst he has been here. That means we’re roughly break even on him, if the rumoured fee is correct.

Wouldn't be a bad move all joking aside. When we played MK Dons earlier this season Williamson had one game under his belt, a 1-0 loss to Accrington. Since then they've amassed 26 points in 11 games since they beat us 4-1 at their place. In that time we've amassed 15 points from 13 games. When they sacked Alexander they had a plan in place as to where they wanted to go football wise, they had Williamson in charge in a couple of days. Now relate that to our utterly shambolic attempt to recruit a manager, it took us weeks ending up with a manager who didn't even realise the job was still on offer until he asked his agent.
Now we get an idea why we just bumble along from season to season.

If the CEO is publicly saying one thing and the manager/recruitment team are doing the complete opposite, it's not down to one individual. It's down to poor management - period.

Williamson, another mentioned on these boards. Tbf fans on the board have a lot more footballing knowledge than Sparks, so it’s not a surprise they’d have better ideas.

If contacted i'd think he would have probably thought twice after realising the club has no real set parameters as to how we achieve success. Nothing is ever guaranteed but what you can say is MK Dons actually targeted Williamson to replace GA due to analysing how they were playing. I'm not suggesting GA can't be a success here but reading between the lines we didn't target him, similar to how we didn't target Mark Hughes.

GA was still in a job when Williamson was mentioned on here, so we wouldn’t have had competition from MK had we done things within 2 weeks (a fair timetable for recruiting a football manager id say). But yes there’s still a chance he would have said no, Gateshead probably doesn’t look much worse atm. Certainly not in terms of job security.

I agree mate, i watched what he was doing at Gateshead with interest, had them playing out from the back and built the team around that ethos. A perfect really for a club that is known for wanting to play that way. I wouldn't have minded him at VP but i don't think it would have been the right club for him.

    1 day.

That's how much time passed between Alexander getting sacked and Williamson being appointed at MK Dons.

They hired him because of his style of play.

Such a thing has never occurred to Sparks before. What's a style of play?

I'm prepared to write Alexander off already.

I'm seeing absolutely nothing from him that convinced me. He looked a poor appointment on paper, and the football is horrendous.

If we give him a couple of windows, I worry he'll gut the squad

Always a worry. Like any manager i believe he needs time but i'm more concerned that until we change above him nothing will change.
To add, what will be interesting is who Notts County go after and how long it takes. Luke Williams played a passing at all costs type of game, something that he hadn't completely mastered in league 2 but Swansea see that style of manager as being the right fit for their approach to the championship. Personally i think they'll go with another up and coming manager with the same approach as Williams and not some lower league journeyman.
