You said £200k just a few days ago!

£300k for the leagues top scorer. And folk wonder why we are in the doldrums when we have a fanbase happy with peanuts for transfer fees.

    Ridicilous.

Told him all this weeks ago. He doesnt listen.

You are right, his mindset epitomises everything wrong with our fanbase.

The Derby game would be the ideal game to give him a run out, it give Young a little longer to get his jiggle sorted and it would be ideal to see how he would play along side Cook or even Oliver.

£300k?... for which leg? Why would we purposefully shoot ourselves in the foot? Young goal scorers are worth their weight in gold. And most young forwards only have a small period of boom to base some worth. Look at Watters the other year going for a million. Langstaff has had 6 months of EFL football and Notts want over £1.5m.

Wimbledon wont entertain offers under £1m for Ali Al-Hamadi, who has 27 goals in 48 apps over the last year. Before that, he scored 4 in 23 for Bromley and Wycombe combined. Similar age to Young and so far this season Young has a better goals per game to with Jake at 0.73 to Ali 0.59 goals per game, has a better shot conversation rate with Youngs at 29% Ali is at 19%, and both have a near identical shot on target rate but rounding up, Youngs is 55% and Ali is 56%.

Why would we say to the CH or L1 clubs looking down the pyramid for the next young striker on form who they can buy and move on for a profit, that we own one of the 2 best young and on form forwards in the EFL, let alone the division, and you can buy one for the third of the price of the other? It's brainless. Best thing to happen if a sale is the route was Wimbledon publicly putting a price on Ali, as it gives us the right to go "this is the market, bid near 7 figures or do one".

Playing devil's advocate here but he could be on the bench and not required to play as we're winning 5 - 0 ;).

Parks view no offence is seriously what is wrong with the club. Take whatever sliver we get offered and run as we don’t want to miss out.

Strong leadership what we lack above GA would say hell no … league leading scorer for me £800k plus. We won’t it will be £200k plus add ons we don’t learn at all!!

Does he have to actually play to stop a move going through? What I am asking is, if he’s on the bench and doesn’t come on, we can still sell him?

That’s zero to do how we are “run”, it was a football issue , nothing else. Fall outs happen in the best run businesses in the world. Something had to give, as it turned out both MH and JY failed to deal with the issue properly. One was tried elsewhere and failed , then a move somewhere else was a success. The other got the sack. Nothing to do with how the club is “ run”.

Park is being pragmatic. There is no point in banding about daft numbers. I just leave it to the professionals. You cited a few examples that paid off , where are the dozens that didn’t and ended up flops?
I prefer to be open minded , there is nothing wrong with being optomistic, sadly some of the fees quoted on here are ridiculous .
We will see. I hope he stays and does well, but if his mind isn’t in it, goodbye !

If such an apparent talent doesn't garner a bid worthy of supposedly selling him I'd have to ask what clubs thought of Young as a player. Everyone will have scouted Swindon after seeing his goal exploits but that doesn't tell the whole story. If he genuinely is worth over half a million then someone will pay it as goal scorers are short supply. Personally I wouldn't be bidding that sort of money for him but that's just my own personal opinion.

It's a bit of a double edged sword he stays and is not the Jake Young who scored on a regular basis at Swindon or we sell him and hope we pick someone up who will help with our ambitions going forward, as you point out no matter what transfer fee he commands we won't get a replacement at his age or the ratio of goal scoring even though its only in the one half season.
If for nothing else the question has to be asked will the strikers we have keep us going in the right trajectory we've seen since Alexander took over, then again if we keep him can he score goals in the formation Alexander uses, I don't envy those making the call.

What makes me laugh about this whole situation is that if Young wasn't our player and there were rumours we were interested in signing him, everyone would be wetting themselves with excitement. There would also be some that would say he was an unrealistic target because as a club, we wouldn't be able to afford him. Yet he is our player and here we are with people happy to see him sold off for peanuts. If you didn't laugh, you'd cry.

And to be fair to Sparks, because of how prudent we are run we are under no real pressure to sell unless a offer you can't refuse is tabled.

As, I said recently , if any scouts had been watching his games in Dec , they wouldn’t have returned. Even some Swindon fans said he was the worst player on the field in one game . That what playing injured does! It’s a shame because he’s got talent, but you shouldn’t ever flog a dead horse, Flynn didn’t care because he knew more likely than not JY was leaving. A real shame , imho.

Imagine the ridicule directed at another club for selling the leagues 22 year old 2nd top scorer for a couple of hundred grand.

To reduce the risk of those idiots at Swindon playing him whilst injured.

Absolutely spot on. I incensed with this thread!

Firstly I want Jake to stay and help us into league 1. How much money will we lose if we don’t get promoted this season?
    2. What does it say about our club that we are prepared to sell a very good young striker for peanuts. It says to me that we are an average club that wants to stay where we are!!!
    3. I can’t remember which thread I said this on but I wouldn’t be prepared to sell him for less than half million. I wasn’t aware of the market value. Double it and we might have a deal, but take into account what we lose.
    4. How will that money be used? We lose a quality player and we gain nothing.

Why tie our new managers hands? Can we as fans start behaving like we are an ambitious club and let the Board know we are totally fed up of this nonsense.
