He's the most natural replacement in our squad imo and I'd be giving him minutes to develop because I think in the long run the club will certainly benefit.

Who's the other options in the squad? Pattison is injured, Odour has a questionable work ethic and attitude, Osedebe hasn't made the most of his chances and Chapman/Wilson aren't central midfielders.

Pointon has ability, we've all seen that so I think we should be getting behind him, letting him develop and making sure he gets enough minutes to do that.

He’s a holding midfielder and was statistically the third best in the division even last season, this season he’s been more influential since Hughes left. This class midfielder in league 2 doesn’t exist, every club at this level would take a Smallwood as a holding midfielder, he was missed badly against MK Dons when we made them look like Man City and he’ll be missed again at the weekend. Of course you can compare any two players regardless of experience, or maybe you weren’t one of the ones criticising Lewis after his string of mistakes? After all it’s only his second season in senior football so we wouldn’t want to criticise and compare to a seasoned pro… Go watch Man City even the likes of Rodri and Dias lose the ball, it’s kind of a hazard of being a footballer.

 

I would think his situation with regards returning would have been explained to him by Alexander, he will want to see him in training and from that Alexander will have a good idea with regards Young temperament and how he gets back into the swing with his work mates, I think although our front two didn't score I'd be surprised if Alexander dropped either.

I see where you're coming from, it could be an old one. Point still stands. Players come back to clubs and simply want to play.

 

That looks like an old photo from when we played Swindon earlier in the season. It also looks like it's at the stadium by the changing rooms so I can't see why the players would be there today in training kit.

 

If as @wetherbywhaler says Alexander has given them 2 days off I would think its preseason as @Birky Bantam says near the changing rooms or maybe Woodhouse Grove.

 

Ability is one thing Dave but time is running out to experiment. If that’s his long term position then great, maybe left wing back, but do we really have time to play him and risk the “ weakness” rather than let him grow into the roles out on loan. I’m not advocating selling him far from it .

 

Wide on the left of a front 3 , but we don’t play that formation. I’d risk him as wing back on the left but not to deputise for Walker. Not yet anyway.

Yes your probably correct, as I posted they have been given two days off so it wouldn't be a resent picture, they should be enjoying the time off with their families, getting themselves in a good mental state ready to start another good undefeated run.

You say "weakness" but the others in the squad that I mentioned hardly bring 'strength'.

It's horses for courses and right now, with the options we have, imo Pointon is the best choice.
