Good. They probably were not offering enough. I know we are short of cash but not so desperate to sell him on the cheap. Or GA wants to see if he can rehabilitate him.

We can’t play him if we intend to sell him. So - unless that decision has already been made - the sensible thing is to get him back, talk to and listen to him, see where his head’s at, watch him in training for a couple of weeks and then assess whether he can productively fit into our style of play, or not, and whether he will be a positive or disruptive influence.
No need to rush into a decision straight away. There’ll surely be desperate clubs looking for a striker at the back end of January and we might even engineer a bidding war at that point if we decide not to keep him.
I guess one argument against that approach, however, is if we want the money in early in order to buy other players, especially as we urgently need cover for Walker and Pattison.

Not an easy decision. Especially with him already being out on loan which means we only play him if we are genuinely gonna play him.

Yes he was rumoured to be a loan target of ours when he was at Newcastle from memory.

Tough decision on various fronts with Young obviously, but just for once for a change I'd like us to not just take the quick buck and actually make a decision that potentially could benefit any late playoff push we might have and call Young back to play for us until the end of season. Yes it's a gamble for sure and it may not work out and decrease his value or it may work out and we could have a lot more than £200k from the decision, but that's what a gamble is all about risk/reward, we don't really take gambles financially given our history and to some extent possibly the best way, but with this decision is how I see it is it's like a free bet we get on our betting apps, do you bet on Celtic, Man City -1, Munich -1 and Liverpool and just win a few quid? or do you go big as it's cost you nothing? I personally go big.

Much depends on Youngs state of mind, because what I also hear is that he's not keen to return. If that's the case and we get a decent fee, we should sell and reinvest in someone who does want to be here.

Name me 1 lower league player who would want to be here that wouldn’t cost us a fee or top wages?
We’ve got half a squad full of players who want to be here but are simply not good enough.

No idea, I'm not a scout. But if we get a fee, we'll be able to pay fees. There's just a basic point of principle for me, which is, it's pointless having players if they don't want to be here. They're unlikely to perform, and it's likely to damage team spirit.

Anyway…with Chris Wilder back in charge at Sheffield United, shall be expect a multi million pound bid for Jake Young?
I mean he bought James Hanson for 250k and Ollie McBurnie for 17million so why not.

I agree. However, sitting in a sulk is not conducive to a progressive career. Flynn obviously had the right touch. All our players appear to like and respect GA; he will be apprehensive but will settle back in once he gets here. If he doesn’t there is no point him being here, but the bids will dry up if they feel he is not a team player. GA is well respected in the football arena.

It shouldn’t be as simple as Jake publicly stating he doesn’t want to be here in an attempt to force a cheap move elsewhere.
If we have any bollox we’ll bring him back no matter what he wants to do, try to get him back involved and scoring for us and if he doesn’t meet the required levels due to his poor attitude then let him train with the kids like Hughes made him do.

I’d heard 2 championship clubs were sniffing, and someone mentioned Rotherham. That would make sense to me; an ideal signing for someone expected to be back in League 1 next season.

Agree. Doesn’t have to be a case of someone sulking though. We’re all human beings, and an in workplace if you’re not happy and settled, you’re not going to perform at your best.

LOL!! I remember those numbskull comments about Toney. We'll take him on loan now as he needs the matches **so funny

I have to say, we have a significant number of fans who wouldn't recognise a good striker unless they've scored 1 in 2 for three consecutive seasons ;)

I remember Charlie Wyke (great to see him back to full health and scoring) getting some very weird 'meh' reactions on here as well.

This, he’s hardly pulling a big salary. If he wants to take that route, I hope he doesn’t, he’s a bloody fool.

I think our finances are just as healthy as any other club, which are still recovering from the losses made during Covid.

In fact, I'd say we're one of the most financially healthy clubs around - hence why they've rejected initial offers.

Clear, he'll be going though. Someone will be desperate enough to pay silly money for a player that's only done it for half a season and even during that spell has been inconsistent.

In summary, he has the talent but I'm uncertain, if Young has the maturity to mix it with players with better ability.
