However, the rain has stopped , it’s getting windy and there’s blue sky on the horizon.
    Another premature postponement???
Maybe Grimsby had the right idea having pitch inspections hourly

We’re so afraid of incurring costs for allowing the away team to travel that we postpone games too early in my opinion

Why, is it only Manningham in Bradford area that has suffered with heavy persistent rain for the past few days.

Same here in Cleck.Rain stopped and sun shining, bit of a breeze too. With Salford only having to travel 20 odd miles,I am surprised they called it off so early.

Was same with Rochdale last season. Called it off at 11.30 but by 3pm the sun was out and pitch perfectly playable.
I hope the powers that be are not this premature in bed.

At the end of the day, the decision is down to the referee, they are the judge as to whether the pitch is playable or not. City don’t decide.

Maybe if the referee didn’t get paid if game is off then that might change things.
I wish I could turn up to work, decide I can’t be arsed, go home and still get paid.

Damned if they call it off early, damned if they call it off late.
I was really looking forward to the game, but having worked outside in the pouring rain all week and pretty torrential since Thursday , i had a good idea this might happen.
Its not the end of the world, we will just have to dick team plastic at a later date.

He won't get a match fee, he will only get his expenses of travel from Sunderland. Do you think he will want to come back on a Tuesday night which means he's got to take at least a day off work to referee the match?

'We' don't postpone games, the Ref does. In this case it would appear that even with some weather improvement, the Ref's view was the pitch would remain unfit. Your assertion that 'we' do this to avoid costs is way off, Salford would have set off before 11.30 as they would likely be having a pre-match meal over here somewhere. Someone has mentioned the pitch inspections at Grimsby, the weather there has been nowhere near like here.

Well instead of my pre-match pint. The wife now has me putting up the Christmas lights outside.
Its bloody windy and still a bit wet.
What's the saying. No rest for the wicked.

Yeah, because they don't have to be concerned about stewards reporting to the ground at 12.30, 1,000 pies being delivered, 500 covers in the suites, police briefings, turnstile operators etc.

A postponement is about so much.more than the away team being able to set off at 1pm.

Thr bigger picture is what is the probability of the match starting & finishing. The loss made if its called off at 2.30, the damage playing on it may do to the pitch long term, the possibility of a serious injury on a marginally playable pitch.

If the pitch isn't 100% playable, and likely to remain 100% playable until the final whistle, then the match should be off.

Yes. The stopping of rain and sun makes water magically dissapear within minutes.

    It's rolling, rolling, rolling ......

Presume it just carries over until the rearranged fixture.
