It'd harm us too. Bringing him back only makes sense if he's willing to give it a go, regardless of his contract.

According to the BBC stats Jake Young has scored 15 goals from 41 shots whilst Andy Cook has 6 from 47.
There's a post match interview with Young on You Tube after Swindon's win yesterday, when he played as 1 up front. I doubt he wants to return too City.

Why would he? It's working well for him, and they're a better run club.

Whether he likes it or not we are his parent club and can recall him if we want.

but you’d presume he’d want assurance he’ll be playing and we only have two realistic slots for him, one really, as Cook starts when fit.

he’s vying for Smith’s spot, as Oliver and Cook are like for like and Chapman is a backup for Smith at the moment.

i guess some of it depends on the cost. Will we owe Swindon a fee if he recall in Jan? On paper a small fee could still be worth it given a 15 - 20 goal striker in Jan, who is young and still 18 months under contract, is a valuable asset.

remember, Wrexham were willing to pay 500k for Harrogate’s Luke Armstrong in the summer, only for paperwork to breakdown the deal. He is striker who doesn’t score goals and they are in for him in Jan apparently.

it begs the question, just how much is Young worth?

he could be the next Mullin at Cambridge - everyone thinks he’ll burn out, but he keeps scoring and ends up with 30. We’d look a bit silly while struggling for goals if we don’t recall.

that said, Smith is playing well and Young’s return ends any chance he has of game time. Young isn’t going to want to sit on the bench and rotate.

Poster above said Young played lone striker on Sat. He wouldn’t play in that role here. So just how adaptable is he? And how much damage did his run-in with Hughes do, in terms of effecting his willingness to come back?

I wouldn't mind seeing Young and Smith given a go. It gives Cook a much needed rest and Young doesn't play with a "big man" at Swindon so there's no reason it wouldn't work.

Worth a try in January isn’t it. Even if he is recalled and then sold ala Doyle, we’ll recoup the loan termination penalty fee in his subsequent transfer fee?

I understand he is under contract and we can force the issue. However ,there is no point in dragging him back against his wishes, as he could disrupt what appears to be a settled dressing room. He will be fully aware of Hughes departure, I just hope if we want him back the overtures need to start now.

If i was in Youngs position i'd be pushing for a move. Why risk returning to a club where you might not get picked or even fit the managers system? We hold the cards as he is our contracted player but Swindon seems a good fit for the lad right now. They'd be mad not to have their owners looking at a bid, probably £150-200,000 for a lower league goal scorer.

Wrexham bid 500k for Armstrong in the summer, 27 years old, 16 league goals last season, 1 so far this. City as a club need to be telling any potential suitors Young's asking price is at least that. We shouldn't be gifting goal scorers to other clubs, especially clubs in the same league as us, for peanuts.

I said at the time he was worth nowhere near that and was proved absolutely right. No one is paying £500,000 for Jake Young.

What makes folk think thst Young would be disruptive????
Maybe what he needs is a manager ro put an arm around him and lets be right if Cook doesnt start scoring soon then it makes no sense at all not to recall him.

Btw the main for the the next window is to shift or try to shift some if the crap out and try to bring players that will be ready for the next sesson.

Still we know whats coming a few crap loan players 48 year old journeymen getting handed 4 year deals.

Seriously people i wouldnt get excited about anything while that scounting team remains at the helm

I wouldn't underestimate the threat of relegation. We'd probably just about have enough, but we can't be complacent. A couple if quality centre backs are a must.

It's the lack of goals that will relegate us, if anything.

We've scored 2+ goals in a game 3 times all season?

    Colchester
    Notts Co
    Newport

    Are there any others?

Hey nothing to suggest there isn't someone out there who will part with that sort of money, especially a goalscorer. Just my thoughts based on what i've seen before. personally i'd have thought both clubs would have looking to negotiate a deal.

I think we need surgery all over tbh. But I worry less about us going forward, as we know Cook has goals in him, Pattison will come back in and help, Young might be a recall option, Chapman is now back. And I think the attacking players we have, in a system that’s more direct and front-foot, will score enough goals to keep us safe. It’s the defence that worries me. I know we had a clean sheet yesterday, but I don’t rate any of those CBs or Richards. We need to be solid and build from there.

15 League goals by the end of November is some effort.
Wouldn't surprise me if we got £250k from a League 1 club.
