We never played 3-5-2 under Hughes. It was 5-4-1.

 

I guess the point I was making is that three at the back isn’t necessarily a bad idea. It’s how you play it.

I agree. We looked far more comfortable in the second half, albeit it was an artificial situation as County weren't exactly going for it. I'd keep the second half formation for now, just to hope for some stability.

 

I agree with Stubbs,he was awful today and most of the season but not let us be kidding ourselves on Taylor Steve,he just isn’t a good defender. The defence looked much better with Platt on and Kelly covering for Richards.

The Mickey Mouse cup game on Tuesday is probably quite handy. Keep the team that played the second-half, broadly, and give them chance to get settled together.

A cull always sounds like an option, but who’s going to buy our dross? And if you are our dross on a 2/3 yr deal you ain’t in a rush to go nowhere, especially fir less money.

 

Last season we had a decent defensive record because we were a very defensive and risk averse side. Ridehalgh and Halliday are steady full backs but Stubbs has been poor this season and Taylor is atrocious.

The system clearly didn't work in the first half but its too simplistic to put our defensive performance down to that. I think I'm right in saying that we haven't made it past the 5th minute without conceding in each of our last 4 league games. That first goal today was awful, a complete lack of concentration and nothing to do with the system, and at least 2 of the others were down to slack individual decisions and ability.

We need one, if not 2 centre backs in January, and Taylor in particular should never play for us again. Similarly, Richards needs binning off.

 

Second half was some green shoots at least. If we’re gonna go three at the back as try on Tuesday, bring the American lad in and try Bobby off of Cook-he’s direct so could work (unlike cook)

As I posted earlier watching the whole game against Wrexham and they looked a decent side and thoroughly deserved the win, it certainly wont be a gimmie.

Same here mate the performance in the second half was much better but that first half really hurt, where we go from here god knows hopefully we have bottomed out but im not positive worrying times ahead im afaid

 

So what do we do on Tuesday,do we play the shadow squad,or do we play the first team in an effort to build some cohesion,my vote would be to play the best starting eleven available,but I'm not the manager.
