I get the Pointon substitution. I don't see him been involved in this mess, doing anything for his development and hence his importance to us going forward.

It's a bit like when England dropped Joe Root after we were 4-0 down in Aus, during 13/14 - sometimes these great talents need protecting psychologically.

The problem Alexander has is that Walker and Pointon are the only players (OK maybe Chapman) who have the skills and footballing brain to create positively - you can't have them rooted to the wings. Which is why 4-4-2 is easily the worst system for us, with our players.

We have actually looked decent going forward. Not sure if people are ready to hear this but we've played alright minus the poor defending.

 

Young lads need time in and out. Even best projects at prem level don't start every match, you have to give them the situations to benefit. Pointon won't have learned anything going back out in this game, fight another day.
