Until you know if a new owner and someone identifies those with professional footballing knowledge who will double up as a professional commercial CEO , then yes. Like it or not that’s the truth .

 

A point I made yesterday when I said bring Evans in, realistically only someone like that or Parky could have any chance with our set up. Either one of them, which won’t happen or we need a DOF with some proper expertise to come and help.

That's exactly how it should work. And I have no idea or interest in naming specific names Kev. I have first hand experience of the pathway to working in a 'C Suite' role, and I know the consequences of being fasted tracked and over promoted. The bottom line, is that neither Rupp or Sparks have anything like the experience needed to run a football club. And it shows.

 

It'll stay the same not because it should, but because the people running the show have no idea how to change it or what to change it to.

 

Huh? Their Bios literally show they have years and years of working in football clubs, and have worked their way up through senior positions. That's exactly what it should look like.

People can’t name names FB, because CEO’s with professional player knowledge and capabilities hardly exist.( I’ll suggest Barry Fry) So why do supporters demand we have one with the right of veto on footballing , not financial grounds.

If they are there and available then yes, but they aren’t even there in the English game. That’s my point.

The CEO didn’t / doesn’t sign it off ! He provides funds for the entire budget in a lump sum ( in basic terms) , it’s up to the manager to sign it off and the recruiter to find the player. Sadly your question doesn’t apply on two grounds

1) I don’t sign off players
2) I don’t have the professional footballing qualifications to determine sign off, that’s what I pay MH and SG to do. It’s their responsibility .

I'm not suggesting that CEOs need professional player knowledge. But they need to know how to run a football club. Sparks doesn't. Why would he, based on his CV?

When I talk about right of veto, I'm not talking about 'I've seen him, don't rate him, we're not signing him'. I'm talking about 'right, you can bring in a striker because we need one. But we're not giving an 18 month deal to a 37 year old who hasn't played in England for 7 years and who's currently playing in India, regardless of what he did for you 10 years ago. Too much risk. We need someone younger, with more energy and resale value, and we're not short of experience either up front or in the squad. Take another look'. Entirely different thing.

What good recruitment looks like, is your CEO/DoF, lead scout and manager confer on transfer targets and those targets are framed against a strategy that makes commercial sense (largely to your CEO), non footballing sense (age, character, reputation, which should matter to all) and football profile that are really the expertise of the manager and scout. Only when all 3 align do you recruit. And at any given point in time we should have live targets we're tracking in every position.

Try reading their CV’s before automatically coming out with two really very poor examples.

I increased pie sales at Orient so I’m a footballing professional. The samples you quote , without you even reading their CV’s are COMMERCIALLY experienced, not footballing.

 

My Son is Law is a Stevenage fan. Their owner is making genuine investment, and apparently has a clear strategy around recruitment that aligns perfectly to how Evans sets teams up. Who'd have thought it, eh?
