Restaurants and stuff

Cannon Mills is up Great Horton Road. Disused textile mill. Used to host a flea market, back in the 80s but I don't know if it still does. I once bought an old, square '40s or '50s Oxo cube tin from there to hold my harmonicas. I still use it to this day for that purpose.

Still 'ere, just with a few time constraints at the mo which means the restaurant gig's on hold for now.

While I'm here I'll mention a place we visited recently in Hovingham, near York, run by the couple who had Cochon in that city. It's called Restaurant Myse which admittedly is a bad name.

Converted boozer, like a lot of chefs are doing these days, now a 'restaurant with rooms'. Fancy stuff but not up its own arse, and a really good buzz. Probably the best place I've been this year.

Can't be long til the new Bradford Market (sorry, Darley St Market) opens now, can it?

 

Good to have you back. The place near York sounds good, but sadly a bit of a trek from Leeds if drinking.

 

Just looked at the restaurant and room experience. £500. No place is worth that, unless you’re on expenses.

 

Fully booked when I stayed, so someone thinks differently!

I take the point that it's pricey, but 'worth' is subjective isn't it? Has a walk-up trip to City this season been 'worth' 20+ quid?

 

Not in this or any any other lifetime could I justify forking out that kind of money, expenses or not

Only been once but it's better now than under the previous owners. My only reservation is that because it's a one-chef operation the deep-fat fryer appears to be heavily relied upon. It all looks nice enough but a bit of freshness wouldn't go amiss.

One for me to revisit, actually.

 

Slightly deterred by the deep fat fryer malarkey....that said I'll give it a go and become a novice poster amongst you foodies
