I wouldn't lose any sleep of we gave Hughes the boot on Monday. That first half was absolutely clueless and made players look far worse than they are. Yes we played better second half but that first 45 is simply unforgivable after seeing it twice already at VP this season.

The Villa lad looks like he plays a lot of FIFA.

 

Don't get me wrong, I'm not his biggest fan but I wouldn't underestimate the impact of one class act like Pointon who could make the difference. To play like we did in the 2nd half today without all of our front line I'd very very encouraging for me.

 

Couldn't agree more with this lass in the studio. She basically said the formation doesn't work and Derbyshire is useless

 

We won the second half 1-0.
We were the most threatening and looked most likely to score in the second half.
I haven’t seen the stats but don’t need to, to be able to say we were much improved (far from amazing) but improved from the shambles of the first.

Regardless of anyone’s opinion of Hughes, find it hard to believe how anyone can see it another way.

The take away from today for me.

 

Not saying we were great, still far from. Just improved.

I’m far from happy to accept performances like todays first half, Crewe game, Morecambe - most of this season TBH. Last season was far from a footballing feast either. However I’m only been fair to call it as I saw it, and the second half was improved IMO.

 

Yes we were better second half but that's totally missing the point. Once again Hughes is forced to make changes at half time after his original line up gets totally outplayed and outhought by a journeyman lower league manager.

He is consistently outhought and our system is easy to nullify at this level.

 

Thought the ref was outstanding today and didn't fall for their antics

 

Hughes saying we planned to press in the first half. He is either a downright liar or his players weren't listening to instructions. We stood off them the whole half.

 

Hughes seems to think Grimsby played a back three or did I mishear him? Age might be catching up with him

 

Again much improved. Improved on a starting point of nothing.

Hughes fans will back him regardless. He's just said 2nd half makes up for 1st half clearly you believe this.

Totally agree. I’m simply reviewing todays game within the match thread. If it’s a thread on the season so far I have a different opinion.

 

Also said we quickly changed it. Not that quickly let a full half go by before changing anything.

 

He said back 3 back 4.....clearly didn't know

Also said 2nd half made up for 1st. Long as he thinks so.
