Budget restraints, lots of available players and clubs overstocked with players on contracts?

There's always lots of reasons plenty of players haven't been picked up yet but it doesn't automatically mean they couldn't improve squads at our level.

 

Wickham confirmed himself he can't train full time anymore after his injuries so anyone who takes him knows its a gamble.

Looks like Bristol Rovers had him on trial early in the summer, wonder if they'll try again now the JCH deal has fallen through?

 

Can he play in a front three with Windass and Claridge?

 

He's only 30. Plenty more years in him yet.

 

Ha, for sure, I was joking because it struck me that Claridge didn't train with us at the time, and Windass notoriously hated training, so adding a guy who can't train full time would have been fun!

 

Hopefully but he doesn't sound like he has much promise in his own fitness after the amount of injuries he's had. He's only completed 7 matches in all comps since the end of the 2020 season. Shame as he looked an absolute prospect at one point but his legs are just ruined. I watched an FA cup game on TV last season with FGR against a non-league team, cant remember who but Mottley-Henry was playing up front for the NL side. But Wickham was far and away the best player on the pitch, think he scored from miles out one of the goals.

That ACL injury just ruined his career, 2 years out and he's had additional surgeries on his hamstrings in the same knee too in the years since. He'd be a good option for this level but he'd be another you'd had to closely manage workloads for and wouldn't be pressing like every striker does these days.

 

I absolutely get that he's not guaranteeing you 40 games a season but if we're looking for an experienced "big un" that can share a bit of the load with Cook I think he's probably about as good of an option as we could get.

Wages and contact wise perhaps it's out of reach but I'd still be asking the question if I was our recruitment team.

 

We'd need one out to bring one in for registration, but we also have an injury prone big un on good money coming back next month..... probably not one for us.

 

He's unemployed. Surely if he has no other offers (and hasn't had one he's agreed to since June) then the level doesn't matter ?

 

Eden Hazard also hasn't agreed an offer yet, it doesn't mean he's coming to league two.

 

You need to look up his injury records (and probably goal scoring records too). 3 years since he played 90 minutes.

One off that list that maybe sorted soon is Gary Madine. He is training with Carlisle, hoping to make a return to his old club. Carlisle also have had a takeover bid this week by a Turkish consortium after already being in talks with an American businessman over a sale of the club.

 

Our other option is Matt Derbyshire.

I know who I'd back to deputy better for Cook.

 

How the hell do clubs like that get so much interest while we just bumble along in league two with a less than disinterested owner and attracting absolutely no one.

 

The owner is asking to much for a club with few assets and lots of liabilties on top of losing money.

 

Being in L1 will help. Interested to see how much they sell for either to the Turkish or the Americans.

 

Just seen Wrexham have picked up Steven Fletcher, currently 36 years old (that must have got Hughes' interest )

 

Terrible signing ... that old and useless ( or so most of those on here think)
