Good shout that. I'm not sure just thought I'd throw it out there.

I would be extremely surprised if we got more than £20k for Poleon.

We shelled out about £75k, I believe (although it's barely fathomable).

And £300,000 for a goalscorer for three and a half years is not 'good', because the whole idea was to actually turn a profit.

We went from having a 24 year old with real potential and an already capable goalscoring record, and now we have a guy who will end his deal at the age of 33.

It's not QUITE gone to plan, but if your point is it could have been worse, well, I agree. Imagine if we hadn't bagged Wyke for a low fee courtesy of a release clause and ended up with just McCartan and Poleon!!

So you don't think that they had a massive fall out with SM with him thinking of leaving but not wanting to walk away?

    It's a good point Jon.

I think that Edin's realised that it's not as simple as whacking a load of kids in and expecting to mine a diamond a season.

To be honest I don't give a shite about strategy or finances, that's Edin's worry.

I just want to see a team mounting a sustained challenge.

    Isn't that why we go?

Well you don't want to make a loss on too many otherwise you've got a bigger hole to fill.

I'd imagine both Niall Quinn and Kevin Phillips scored more that season, and definitely remember Windass winning it still think we ended mid table as well.

Not trusting McCall because they had a fallout with him is more plausible. Not trusting McCall because he was friendly with the players, which you've twice tried to justify, Is less so.

A mix of ages for example a 30 year old goalscorer but probably no return then a young fullback full of potential to earn money. Then we have players in their mid twenties some of which could have a good spell and be sold on. Of course mistakes are made in the transfer market at all levels and Poleon appears to be one. McCarten and Reeves are still under contract and May bringing money in the future

If Doyle scores enough goals to help us to promotion though surely that is equal or, more likely BETTER than the profit we brought in for Wyke so that would point to the plan succeeding.

The signing of Law could indicate that he had more say in recruitment than the anti-owner conspiracy people on here would have us believe, Therefore more of the responsibility for that awful recruitment is at his door than some would have us believe. It became obvious he wasn't the man to lead the club with his and the teams total implosion and his inability to turn it around. His bringing Law in is the seeds of a clique and Tony Mac's instagram would hint that the wasters were taking the pee.

So it hinges on how much say you think SM had in the signings we made, those of you who think that Edin was picking the team also claim he doesn't know football especially English football, then why were those signings made? Everybody presumes that Edin selects the targets, picks the team and selects tactics. Which I find more ludicrous than dismissing, considering the statement about a club within a club (which is on record), the idea that if a clique does get hold it can choke the life out of any enterprise.

It's a fair point you've made and hopefully we can unearth a gem, get some value ourselves and sell him on.

My reservation is that as soon as they become an assured starter that their head gets turned and we have to flog them and then in effect we are back to square one.

Success on the pitch is critical to the model working.

Should Doyle start Saturday? We may get a goal from mid field but now we have Doyle I would of thought he should start. MC says no need to throw him in yet.

All that would change of course, should we find ourselves in the championship next season. **shock

Now you’ve done it haven’t you. This thread is going to meltdown once the AEB (anti edin brigade) read this.

I love McCall the legendary player, but always had doubts about his ability to manage a team on a downward spiral.

I wonder if his lack of alternative employment is self imposed and we’ll see more of him in a media role.
