Match Thread Accrington (A) - League Cup

Not quite there second string and they brought their best players on second half. Not an easy place to come against a team in league one last season

 

Good game tonight, enjoyed myself!
Accrington's facilities are very good, no ques for a beer.

We progress to the next round, that’s the aim of cup football so of course I’m happy about that. I just feel that we are a little short of being at our best and I hope we improve that’s all.

As for winning the penalty shoot out, I imagine that will be a real mental boost to the players and we can carry that confidence into our next game.

 

They haven't even played this season, that's gotta be a weird situation for them.

Is that one on telly?

 

Oduor seemed to have a more impactful game.

Pattison scored which is great for his confidence but then lost impact. He needs to be further up the pitch where he can influence like he did in the first half.

Walker tries hard but he needs players around him to play off. This one up front doesn't suit him or Cook. The sooner Smith is on the pitch, the better imo.

 

Hopefully Macdonald comes in soon in that anchor role and Pattison can move up the pitch.

 

Great we won then. 2nd round of the cup and a home game on Saturday.

 

I hope we see MacDonald alongside Smallwood with Walker or Pattison as the more advanced CM. We’ll be a lot more solid like that. Get Smith up front alongside Cook and we’re on our way.

 

And McDonald, in my opinion.

Get these lads on the pitch as soon as they're fit, reckon McDonald will lend Pattison the license to start further up the pitch.

Quite right, Park, we could have switched a fair few players in and out and it would have still looked like our first team.

But because we don't know Accrington's team and they made a bunch of changes, we assume Coleman has got that spot on and they're the second string.

Hughes wouldn't get that much respect from City fans - they'd just say he didn't know his best team!

Can't win sometimes.

Might have been the 5th penalty taker, but we only needed 4 as Accrington slipped up

 

Don't recall him touching the ball.....

Deserved victory all said and done and have to say I was impressed with Halliday tonight. Got in some good balls from the right. Oduor impressed with energy and a bit of skill. Walker put a rite shift in, especially in a defensive manner but was isolated at times.
