Because we are not increasing the value of the club and protecting it.

Not many people will look to buy us if we don’t own assets.

I thought Man City owned the Etihad campus?

No. The stadium itself is owned by Manchester Council. If you recall it was originally built for the Commonwealth Ganes in Manchester.

Man City has a (very long) lease on the stadium and has naming rights on the stadium in return for paying a colossal rent to the council. The rest of the complex is owned by the Council, the club and (I think) Sheikh Mansour, the club's main owner.

No, Liverpool FC doesn't own Anfield ... which might come as a surprise to Fordy! ;)

In fairness, it's actually owned by a couple of companies which themselves are subsidiaries of Fenway Sports, a company itself owned by Liverpool's ultimate owners. But Liverpool FC rents Anfield from these other Fenway companies.

Yeah, I know the stadium was council owned but I thought they'd funded the building of the training complex (Etihad campus) themselves.

After a quick Google though it looks like it was a joint project with the council but it does state on Wikipedia (I know) that it's "mostly owned and operated" by Manchester City football club.

I've just checked again. There's a very complex ownership structure for the Etihad complex itself involving the Council, the club (which includes its Chinese and US owners) and several other companies whose ownership isn't clear but presumed to be part of Sheikh Monsour's empire. Certainly most (but not all) of the funding for the training facilities etc came from Mansour's companies and some sponsors. To add to that, there's then a different structure for the operation of the complex.

The important point here is that, like many other high value sports based companies, ownership of the club and its facilities is very complex and diverse!

Surely a prospective buyer of the club would judge the facilities as suitable to meet the needs of the club in terms of delivering success on the pitch. If the facilities are fit for purpose then a prospective buyer should be happy with that? And the fact that we don't own it means that it can't be included in the purchase of the club as it's not an asset. Which in turn should make buying the club cheaper and investing in the club a more attractive proposition?
A training ground owned by the club is only really an asset if you realise that asset and that means selling it.
It's a bit like when folk say Rupp is worth €100m. He may be but that isn't liquidity. It only becomes that figure in terms of spending if he sold his business and cashed in his other assets.

Not to my knowledge we trained on pitches near Shipley King George V playing fields on Canal Road, I believe we trained at Marley stadium at one time.

    What does that matter?

We've never won the Premier League or a European trophy but it doesn't mean we never want to.

Trained there a couple of times and saw City walking off.

Must have been horrendous as a professional having to train on that.
