I usually agree with most of your posts but to blame fans for dropped points is a strange comment, I believe it was the Gillingham game after Crichlow didn't clear the ball after 12 minutes allowing Tim Dieng a clear run on goal that fans started to question playing out from the back and had seen enough of the possession football Hughes expected (certainly the defenders) to play, it was embarrassing to see that the players didn't seem to have faith to stick with Hughes way of wanting them play out from the back,so much so that Lewis and the full backs were arguing between themselves what to do, and Hughes who is right in my line of sight was gesturing to hit it long.
I do agree we have to go on the front foot from the first whistle at home to put the opposition under pressure.

Can't argue with that SP. Think back to last season's pre season and Scales was one of the stand out players. We pray Polnton won't follow those steps.

Has anyone ever seen a pre season as flat as this one… can’t think of any in recent memory. Everything feels flat, get the impression club holding council on ambitions and creating a buzz due to the challenges in the league.

with critchlow you cant blame Hughes for that, he mis-hit the ball.

with Lewis and the full backs is it possible they were arguing because the fans were getting on their backs in the first place?

isn't it a bit odd we play the same home and away but it was only away we did well? Where is the difference?

Qualifying for and failing in the play offs isn't a particular achievement. Top 3 should be the target for us, he was certainly backed enough. And we've been a shambles for years, it's an awfully low bar. The fact we did it for the first time in 5 years just means we've been abject failures, it's not a frame of reference that makes what Hughes did last season impressive.

So yes, there are question marks and they'll only be answered positively if he gets us promoted.

There was a couple of near misses before Crichlow's error, here's a video clip of that game and after the Gillingham goal it was quite clear the defenders had little confidence with regards playing out from the back .

Yes of course they were, you can hear the fans anxiety with regards our defending and playing out from the back, our away record was very good and yes we did play out from the back, the difference being it wasnt working at home, for the simple reason at Valley Parade the opposition don't allow you time on the ball and push up in the final third to make it difficult to play that way, where as away from home the pressure is on the home team to get at the opposition.

You keep finding different ways to say the same thing. You haven’t long to wait now let’s see a few games before we make judgement

Yet in the second half when the great unwashed were at the other end of the pitch we played it out from the back easily and played some of our best football of the season

    Some respects I agree, others I don’t.

The ground was like a library at times with 18 k or more in. In the old days we made more noise in the Bradford end alone if losing. The more than a few odd (non) supporter booing helps any team perform better .. NOT! The rest I’m content with FB.

Agree after McCall was sacked all the managers appointed looked on paper to be the correct appointments, Simon Grayson had a good track record with regards getting teams promoted, then when offered the job permanently he turned it down, I'll give him credit for seeing straight through Rahic.
Dave Hopkin was offered the job he'd been successful in Scotland why not, he couldn't turn us around and resigned, then Gary Bowyer again looked a perfectly good choice he'd done a great job at Blackpool under difficult circumstances (Oystons) that failed to work.
Under pressure we pressed the default button and once again brought Stuart back, a week after giving Stuart an extension to he contract Ryan fired him, enter Derek Adams again a manager who had brought success to lower league teams although he started reasonably well he certainly didn't adhere himself to Bradford City fans and once you lose the fans and results aren't going the way you're shown the door.
Mark Hughes gets the job and I believe had more money at his disposal than any of the previous managers, we were there or there abouts all season picking up points without the performances, that was acceptable because we wanted out of the 4th division by any means.
And although I've posted it before the late substitution in the second legs at Carlisle blew any dying hopes of getting through, maybe some will disagree and maybe think I'm being harsh but no one will convince me that was the correct decision and for those who may comment "hindsight is a wonderful thing" this is my post before Carlisle scored the winner https://bantamtalk.com/index.php?threads/carlisle-united-vs-bradford-city-saturday-20th-may-2023-3-00pm.7217/page-23#post-755106 .
