Match Thread Bury FC v Bradford City AFC Saturday 8 July 2023 3pm

Thanks @Kevin1954 watched the game live on YouTube. A good run out but most importantly we helped the new Bury off to a good start back at Gigg Lane. The commentary said it was just short of 4 years since a game was played there! I thought the stadium looked in very good nick after 4 years.

 

Bury and it's fans should be very proud of what they have achieved in 4 years culminating in today's match.

I have seen him play often and he is a good defensive midfielder and is worth the contract he earned.

You do realise he was also here last year playing against teams at the same level don't you?

 

This worries me a little and I found myself “eye rolling” at times yesterday. Keeping possession is good, but turning inside and passing back reminded me so much of last season. It slows the game down so much. Is it Hughes who refuses to take risks and will therefore remove any attacking intent from his defenders?
I’ve seen quotes of Orient playing the same way, but with them you always felt there’d be a chance created at the end of it all. Some managers like to get at opponents, and of the teams that beat us last season, the majority got into our faces and didn’t allow us time on the ball.

First game back so old habits may die hard, but I hope we don’t see too much of the ball in our half with the attacking players making numerous runs and the ball never arriving.

 

By the way it was good to see Odusina get a run out. He looked bigger than I remember him. 3-5-2 will suit him. I don’t think he did an awful lot wrong, if anything really.

 

Hartlepool fans did say he was far better in a '3' at the back.

If we are going with 3 at the back, then maybe he still has a part to play here

Ahhh right so you finally agree with me. Pre season does mean something. Excellent. Yes we all know the results mean f all. Lets be honest though - if Bury had beaten us 6-0 youd have plenty to say.


Hopefully next summer you will realise you are always wrong about the kit launches too.

 

That's harsh. I 100% agree we should have said thank you and goodbye this summer, but he's not a terrible player at this level. It's just that a team that are supposedly aiming for promotion need better.

 

Terrible player? Come on Monkey. Gilliead is far from a terrible player. Certainly not the greatest but there was a period last season where he put in some MOTM performances in a few consecutive home games. He was superb - and other games he was dross.

He is a valuable squad member IMO. and I wouldn't be against him challenging Halliday for that RWB spot.

 

One thing I noticed yesterday was the size difference. Oyegoke and Taylor really add some brawn to that defence. McDonald another big bugger but we obviously didn't see him yesterday.
