At the end of the day though, until we get either higher level football or serious investment the unfortunate truth is that we've very little to offer players that would make us stand out.

 

Very much so. Just the state of play really. Plenty of similar sized pulls these days in the 4th their, we aren't a special lure anymore.

 

It is - but one is bankrolled by a multimillionaire and the other play in the league above so it is what it is.

You would like to think all 3 in the same league and all 3 offering the same wage we would come out on top more often that not.

 

Agyei usually plays off the right but can play off the left or through the middle. He played on the left vs us and rinsed Stubbs and Halliday for pace - I think that was a ploy by their manager.

 

But what about the bigger crowds m9? I guess Stockton is happy to play in front of 4,000, has no ambition etc zzzzzzz

When people say this I just feel it such a lazy comment really. So many factors influencing a players decision and its so easy to say "we can't compete with Gillingham" - well, we can't if a player wants to live in Rochester. Why should they move to Bradford?

 

I'm sure if we really wanted Jonny Williams we would have increased our offer but we chose not to which isn't the same as being unable to compete. The other area of the deal was location and there is nothing we can do about that, some you win on location (Cook and Smallwood) and some you lose

 

Stockton confirmed at Burton but I’m sure we have either a veteran lined up or a young kid nobody’s heard of who’s never scored a goal in the league. Be amazed if we sign Agyei.

 

Like most jobs suspect It mainly boils down to wages and location (not having a silly commute). Joining the ‘bigger’ club is great but not if it hits you to the tune of 2k a month!

 

Tbf we don’t know from Adam who we are interested all sorts of rumours and if you throw enough one or two may stick. Stockton for instance might have been a good signing if Cook hadn’t renewed. The lad from Crewe has stated he wanted a move south even if we did show an interest. Whilst we al enjoy the speculation but we should be well aware that there is little or nothing in most of them

Not really bothered about Stockton to be fair. His wages will be huge given his recent success and if we retain the same style and formation, one way or another, we've got too much of the budget getting splinters.

I'd much rather we brought in a pacy striker or strengthen the midfield area.

We can compete with both. Williams went to Gillingham because of location. Burton can offer football at a higher level. Compelling arguments yes, but we have advantages over both ourselves.

 

What advantages do we offer players over both those clubs?

Potentially location I suppose, depending on the player, although Button isn't that far but If it's not money or higher level football then I'm honestly stuck?

Gillingham are now able to compete financially, but so are we. We can offer many additional benefits which they can't. However, if a player is from Kent and wants to play down south for a club he's wanted to play for at some stage in his career, then it's out of Bradford City's control.

People need to remember the primary reason Williams chose Gillingham over us. It was down to location.

 

Why would you honestly believe we'd be signing Cole Stockton? Honestly. A player whose proven himself at league one level. Why would they drop down to league two in the hope that the team they sign for may get promoted so he's back where he was a year ago. Madness.

 

Absolutely no evidence to suggest we was 8n for Stockton.

As for Williams, we did compete but we didn't offer the geography

 

Its a similar problem teams like Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough struggle with. Unless your willing to pay silly money, top players just won’t want to relocate to unfancied parts of the UK.
