Songo'o Loaned to Walsall

Not if you listen to me. I did say they were 8 better teams with higher chances of going up.

Ok, I get sending fringe players out on loan if we are replacing them with better players, but I am yet to see that happen. What I don't get is why we are loaning players to rivals within our division! Is Hughes losing the plot?

 

Yann could be the first City player to feature in the 4th round of the FA Cup for 8 years.

 

As i said earlier in this thread, you can only move players on, if other clubs want to take them, or you try and pay up the players contract. Songo is out of contract come the end of the season and would probably be moving on. Why keep him at the club , just to sit on the bench or not be even in the match day squad, when we are covered in the positions he plays.
Mass hysteria , because its Wallsall. i don't think the response would be the same had he gone to a Wimbledon type or a national league team.

 

They've failed in January in my mind. We'll know by end if Feb where we end up and that's not in the play offs let alone above.

With Kelly (CB) and Clayton (CM) coming in, Yann moved down the pecking order in both positions.

Songo'o never did us wrong and deserves game time. He's a Derek Adams player, though, not a Mark Hughes player, and one of the remnants following a near total overhaul.

So what is your point? He hasn't gone to a national league team? He has gone to a promotion rival. Doesn't matter if it's a loan or a transfer, consistently letting players leave for teams around us is just stupid.

 

He may have been promoted a couple of seasons back but he is simply not good enough for a starting berth anywhere in this team, which many are criticising as a collective to the nth degree. The only valid point (IMHO) in this thread lamenting his loss concerns squad morale. He is not going to get us promoted and is certainly not League 1 standard. All the best to him - he's always been a life on the line type player when on the pitch.

 

Not nitpicking Jon but I doubt he was below Kelly in the CB pecking order

Why wasn’t he playing in the middle for us……?Your call……. ? Too slow, turning circle the size of QE2. Let’s be realistic for a change ? Like Sutton, being a great team player with a heart of a lion is far and away not enough to take the place of mobility or technical ability.
Time for compassion and sentimentality has gone. We either want promotion or we don’t. Again you choose. Yes I’m interested in your thoughts.

 

If we were to look at this move from an objective point of view :

1) Was Yann a starter? No
2) Was he on a high wage? Probably
3) Is he technically limited? Very
4) Is he a good character in the team? Yes
5) Would he of been happy with the playing time he was getting? I highly doubt it
6) Would Hughes of wanted him to stay? I think he would’ve
7) Is it wise to send another one of our players to a League Two rival? Of course not

I think this is more a case of Yann pushing for a move; rather than Hughes showing him the door. He’s been a model professional from the day he joined our club. Always was willing to put his body on the line. Praised by both Hughes & Adams for his attitude on an off the pitch. Had plenty of experience in the league with promotions under his belt. And he is capable of covering multiple positions. The downsides : Slow, very technically limited, not suited to our style of play. not comfortable on the ball. Lets not make it out that he was Maldini now that he’s gone

Irrespective of his faults, I don’t think Hughes would of wanted to let a player like that leave considering we apparently are going for a promotion push this year. But ultimately, Songo’s contract runs out at the end of the year. He’s getting very little minutes an needs to put himself in the shop window an find a way to get that last big pay day. Obviously; its not ideal giving him to a fellow League Two team but there’s not really much you can do if the player wants the move an we don’t have the luxury of keeping so many players on our books

Any team in this division could be classed as a promotion rival in fairness Steve. Clearly they aren’t good enough for L1, so it’s nothing other than L2 or National League. There is limited choice?

 

If Songo'o gets game time at Walsall then fair play to him as he was rarely playing here.

Just have to hope City wont miss him coming on to see out games that we are winning or drawing.

He was kind of slow enough to fit in with Hughes' style of play.
