Can’t believe I’m watching a professional outdoor sport being played in such conditions in the most litigious country in the world. Buffalo Bills v Cincinnati Bungles.

I suppose the two Bristol games is the interesting issue. Both games set to be played on the Saturday in Bristol. City goes ahead, Rovers is postponed. I assume that they are in relatively close proximity, it may well be the quality of the anti frost protection which they have on their respective pitches, which meant they had different outcomes?

Ashton Gate has undersoil heating so that will be why their match went ahead.

Fair enough, but they are obviously in Bristol. It shows how effective the system can be. Not sure how much undersoil heating costs to install/run? But cancelling premium Saturday fixtures must dent the clubs income.

Assuming there was no financial obstacle to undersoil heating, we also really have to factor in the topography of the ground area. Might have been ok for yesterday but any major snow/ice would be a no-no simply because of the potential for issues outside the actual ground. I suppose that’s where we are with the Americanisation of the legal system these days. My understanding is that ultimately the council could make that decision anyway.

435 million dollars spent on the stadium in 2021 according to Wiki . Should have climate control for that price Colin?

It's the surrounding area as much as the actual pitch. Not bad for a fan owned club.

The last two games, which have been postponed at Valley Parade, are a result of the pitch being unplayable, rather than the surrounding area.

So the Match Officials rather than the Local Authority.

To be fair the areas surrounding numerous grounds, with undersoil heating, would not necessarily have better snow/ice treatment on the footpath/road surfaces (unless it was the Odsal Superdome;)).

Valley Parade is very close to Major A routes such Manningham Lane/Canal Road, which are a priority for the council to keep open.

Lifelong Bristol City fan Steve Lansdown owns the club and provided most of the finance to rebuild Ashton Gate and the redevelopment of the area. He also owns Bristol Bears and Bristol Flyers, a basketball team.

He is a sports nut and seriously wealthy having made his money in financial services.

ps It cost him nearly £27m to underwrite BC's losses last season!

No, all funded by fans, they have approx 537,000 shareholders and no one is allowed more than 200,000 shares. When they need funds they just issue more shares (a couple of years ago they issued 200,000). It's entirely not for profit.
If you've got the time they are definitely worth reading up on.

When I was watching the Stevenage game the other day, their commentator said they had heated pitch covers - like a big electric blanket. Wonder if BCAFC have ever considered them, can't see them costing a huge amount? Plus surely any investment would be rapidly clawed back by the revenues lost when postponing a Saturday afternoon game to a Tuesday evening?
