So was M. Swartzer ‘s first SIXTEEN games of FIRST TEAM FOOTBALL. Then we lost him for peanuts.

Fair comment, but Schwarzer was always a "business deal". We bought him with the sole intention of cashing in once bigger British teams realised his potential. In fact we stole him from under the nose of Manchester City who he was on his way to talk to when Richmond hijacked the deal. We paid a decent fee for him and he was already a full international.

The only irony of selling him is we ultimately tried to replace him with Robert Zabica, the man he had dislodged from the Aussie National Team.

We were never "vunerable" to losing him because we always planned to sell him on quickly.

@Kevin1954@Kevin1954, why are you always so obnoxious with your replies.
Just accept that other people can have different views to yours and, you are not always right.

I thought it was £1.3m inc add ons which at that time was considerably low considering his career thereafter? We stole him perhaps? He was stolen from us imho.

I believe there was a £900K transfer clause similar to the Charlie Wyke transfer to us which was £250k . Not sure about any add ons.

Our idiot fans throwing flares at Mansfield could cost us so it would seem. I hope they can identify them and ban them for a very long time until they can learn to grow up

I doubt we'll lose Lewis any time soon.

When we lost Schwarzer, there were a few things: he had a minimum fee release clause written into his deal, we were a Championship level club, and he was a foreign player with huge ambition with no ties to club or manager.

Does any of that apply here to Lewis?

I could see League One teams wanting him, but no being prepared to pay for him.

Such a clever signing by MH. Of course he knew him from his Southampton days and knew what he was capable of, but I remember a good few on here being meh about his signing saying he hadn't played enough first team games for his age. Be interested to see what they think now! Best keeper we've had since Mark Schwartzer.

I think you could argue that the 3 keepers we had during the PL days are the best we’ve ever had.

Be playing away games with no fans soon if this carries on.
It’s been the same at nearly every away game this season and even some home games.
How do they even get these flares into the stadiums. At most games now everyone is searched.
Although some of these cretins probably enjoy ramming them up their arseholes to sneak them in.

Why should the club suffer for the pyro idiots though? How on earth can they police what away fans get up to. Absolutely 100% impossible

if anything, it should be the home side that faces sanctions for having piss poor security. They’re a business, and should invest their profits to take the necessary precautions to stop pyros etc entering the ground

As usual, the blame culture points fingers at the easiest target!

It's not so long since the club were glorifying aggro, posting videos on social media of Hughes getting aggressive on the touchline, and making out it's a 'cool' thing.

    Promote aggro, get aggro.

Hughes is actually pretty mild mannered on the sidelines from what I've seen, but the club have been trying to reach out to fans with that kind of mentality (even if they deleted such tweets after getting flak for it), whereas a club that acted in a more responsible manner would have more of a case when pleading innocence.

How do they get hold of these flares, if they are on general sale to the public, its time for it to stop, same with fireworks. Its a real shame, but the morons spoil it for everyone else.

Regards Lewis, we all forgetting that the club has an option of a third year in his contact too? It essentially runs until 2025 as it stands.

The transfer market was a different beast back in 96/97 when Schwarzer was here. For a start he was picked up and sold in 16 games before the idea of a transfer window ever existed.

Lewis will only leave City at the earliest in the summer and that's only if we don't go up. Even then I think it's unlikely after only 12 months of first team football in L2.
