Midland Road incident

By saying closing the road, do you also mean stopping parking on that stretch as they won't be able to move until all pedestrians have filtered away.

I've been walking down Midland Road for over half a century without endangering my life by simply walking down the path, its not difficult

 

Maybe they should hold the fans in the stadium until the traffic has cleared

 

Or midnight, which ever comes first .. !!

 

Bonkers idea. Let those that are driving and their passengers out first and then 30 mins later let those who are walking or using public transport? How would you police that? Would never work.

Why not just walk on the pavement?

 

I'm assuming sarcasm doesn't exist in Keighley?

 

There is only one answer. Shut Midland Rd at both ends from 1200-1800. (Saturdays as an example) Barrier off access roads from Manningham Lane onto Midland Rd. ( Cornwall Rd example which is used as a rat run to escape Queens Rd lights in both directions) This isn’t rocket science, with manned access for the disabled and emergency vehicles.
We are we making this so difficult when there is an easy simple solution?

Midland Rd could be and should be a valuable outside fan space pre kick off.

Fans could just do what they do on the rest of their life and walk on the pavement. There's no entitlement to walk on a road just because you are leaving a football match.
If people are that desperate for a road closure then why not crowd fund for it. If it means that much then I'm sure you won't have an issue of paying for it.

 

Saw the lad that had the issue the other week on twitter. His face is a mess - poor bloke. Apparently someone went after him and his grandad. Looking at the lad got to think his grandad is 70+ (at a guess). Absolute disgrace. Very surprised no city fans jumped in to help especially so close to the ground. Would go as far as to say its a shame that city fans didn't jump in and do a job on the driver.

When it comes to road closures - mental to me they haven't closed Midland road. Others have done a better job at articulating the exact ways it could be done, so I'll leave it at that.

 

Very easy. It's a cut through road, there's no need for traffic between Rock Terrace to beyond the Auction place on a match day. Apart from cars driving away from parking on there, you'd have to be pretty stupid, pretty ignorant or down right pre-vocative drive along the length of it between 4.45 & 5.15 on a match day.

 

Crowd fund for a road closure…Seriously ? It’s a blanket application to Bradford Council or the Highways Agency based on home fixtures. It will cost the club nothing other than the purchase of a few road barriers , signage , half a dozen “ security staff” a perhaps one Policeman at either end of Middy Rd. We are looking for reasons NOT to do it by suggesting crowd funding as a barrier.

 

Exactly. What's the cost apart from a few cones. All it takes is someone to convince BDMC that it makes sense, though I doubt that as they will say the locals are being disadvantaged by not being able to use the road.

 

Walking down the pavement seems like a credible idea until you have to walk at 0.1mph past people who insist on walking as slow as humanly possible.
That’s why people then walk on the road.

 

Then people have the choice between walking in the road where the cars are or walking a bit slower but knowing they are safe.

 

I know what you mean about being held up by the world's slowest walkers. I don't walk in the road though, just wait for an opportunity to overtake.
The other obstacle to keeping on the pavement are the overhanging branches from trees growing over or even out of the high walls on the way towards Queens Road. I wrote to the Council in 2019 pointing out the hazard on match day, from forcing people into the road or taking their eye out.
I got a reply asking was it Council land and if not who owned it. How was I supposed to know? More or less a "get this off my desk without dealing with it" answer.
Still seems the same now.
