That's a pretty good scale though.

    It's unbelievable what we're seeing.

Hardened Tory shills should be abandoning ship at this point.

The problem for lifelong Conservatives like myself is if we do decide to abandon them, we have no other viable option to vote for.

My generation only have to remind ourselves how truly awful it was under Labour governments and the younger generation should be careful what they wish for voting Labour as they have no adult experience of living with a Labour led government.

Where's Nigel Farage when you need him, other than presenting on GBNews!

It was the best period for the ordinary person in modern history by far.

Not the best for families of our young men sent into an illegal war who never returned, or came home suffering with PTSD

The 'Just Stop the Oil' movement have tweeted that 'ordinary' people will bring our capital to a standstill today, amongst them Corbyn. If that's a snapshot of 'ordinary people, then you are probably right and I'm glad I'm not ordinary!

It's not made up nonsense at all. Putin is a megalomaniac who is openly appalled at the loss of Russia's previous eastern European empire. If you think he would have stopped at colonising Ukraine, had he been able to get away with it as easily as he thought he would, then you are living in cloud cuckoo land.
Russia and Russians need to get used to the fact that they are now (nuclear weapons aside) no longer a superpower in either military or economic terms and can no longer throw their weight around with impunity like they used to do in the bad old USSR days.

I take this point, and it's a good one, but there's something a bit off about saying "Labour governments used to be terrible" when for all intents and purposes, this one is completely different.

Is it not like saying "Manchester City were crap in the 98/99 season, they must still be crap now" - all right not quite the same, but is it really that relevant now? Would you say "I can't back Man City in a Premier League match, they're a second division side"?

Like I say, I take your point, and it's not exactly the same thing, but we all need to be open to the possibility Labour will do better now.

And we have to compare current with current.

Truss is a proven disaster already. I'd pick Starmer any day of the week at the moment, but if he's also a failure? I'll vote Conservative next time. But right now, it HAS to be Labour.

Twelve years, four Prime Ministers -each one worst than the last - grinding the country into the dust with falling real wages, decimated health and public services, moribund economic growth, spiralling national debt and inflation.
Just how economically catastrophic do the Tories have to be before people stop thinking of them as the economic safe pair of hands? They absolutely are not that. They're a disaster.

The current Conservative party is a very different one from the days of Mrs T or John Major. Whether I agree with their policies or not, I always felt two things about them. Firstly that they believed they were doing the right thing for the country with a mandate to do that and secondly that the country's finances were under control with them at the helm. The current crop of Conservative politicians are very different. They are self-serving fundamentalist zealots who are turning the country into something very different. The one nation Conservatives have been banished from the party and it's now under the control of the ERG and taking its lead from some rather questionable extreme right wing think tanks with links to the extreme end of the Republican party, including the Institute of Economic Affairs.

I suspect that the recent Truss-Kwarteng debacle and their plans to reintroduce austerity will demonstrate to many traditional conservative voters that the party they have supported for many years has changed fundamentally.

    Great post.

What worries me most is that they're cutting benefits - AGAIN - at time when we're in a real terms recession (ie, less money in all of our pockets).

God help any Tory voters who are made redundant in the next year or two... your safety net is nothing but withered threads.

It's actually about time they changed the name of their Party TBH. There is nothing conservative about them these days. They are the Destructive Party. They're certainly doing their best to destroy what's left of our once fabulous health service as well as our social care and most other public services.

If it wasnt for first past the post they wouldnt class themselves as tory. Its like they have three parties in one and under PR it would be split into them.
