My annual salary in 1965 was £485 and the company was so pleased with my performance that it was increased to £515 the following year!.

Started work in Aug 71, first wage £6.63 per week.
Went up to £7.70 later that month when I was 17.
Still on that wage following Feb when we got married and a month later when our 1st daughter was born.
Hard times financially, but we bought our own little house and stuck at it.
Still going strong 50 years later.

I always find it interesting when talk turns to wages and prices from the past.

This is all from well before my time, but in 1949 when Mum and Aunt started their nursing training, they made £5 a month, plus room & board and a uniform. They had to buy their own shoes and stockings though. This was with the arrival of the NHS, and Matron made sure to tell them all that now that they were being paid so well, they'd all better live up to it. (Previously, County hospitals paid £3 a month, and infirmaries nothing at all.) M&A suspect Gran made more as a nursing orderly than they did!

Previously, they'd all been mill girls for a year; Mum made £5 a week, Aunt and Gran £3, as they were slower workers. What a drop in wages! But a much healthier lifestyle and working environment.

Their first house, a 1-up 1-down with outside loo, in Batley cost £250. The street is still there, but with newer housing; those old terrace houses were torn down a long time ago.
