Yes, it's so funny watching the Johnson supporters trying to get him wriggled out of being held accountable. "It's a witch hunt!" Pathetic.
Can you imagine the furore if it was Keir Starmer in Johnson's position and Labour was trying to get a select committee to stop due process from occurring. They'd be baying like a pack of wolves, with the Tory press all over it.

Nothing to argue about Park. We were raised to develop our brains hence opinions will always differ. My take is that we were lucky to have her as our head of state for so long. She seemed to have a great understanding of and sympathy for ordinary folk. As a young princess during the blitz, she voluntarily drove ambulances which of course would have given her regular contact with ordinary people including hospital staff.

You could say the dame about France, but I believe they elect the president who then chooses a glove puppet prime minister. Still, no need for both.

Don't know about rugby but cricket matches were postponed today so I think that is taken as their day/matchday of respect.

Haven't read the thread. What an absolutely farcical state of affairs. I am not doffing my cap to this continued fairy tale. Leave my football alone you idiots.

Not the place but if it is rearranged for October 11th and you can’t make it, I’ll buy your ticket.

A UKCA email to members says there is no expectation for businesses, including cinemas, to close in the official mourning period of 10 days from the death until the funeral, referring to the ‘formal guidance’ document issued by the Cabinet Office following the death of Prince Phillip in April 2021.

Theatre performances will continue during the “official period of mourning,” according to guidance from the country’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. However, a spokesperson from SOLT and U.K. Theatre said they expect some theaters to close on the day of the funeral, which has been expected to take place 10 days after the monarch’s death.

Leisure Centres, Gym’s, Sports Centres, Swimming Pools are open.

Restaurants, Pubs, food outlets, Off licenses are open.

Filling stations, shops and Supermarkets are all open.

Rugby League, Cricket (on Saturday onwards), Horse Racing (Flat) starts again on Saturday.

Weddings are still going ahead. Public transport operating.

Strikes me that the action of the EFL (& Premiership) flies in the face of all other parts of society.

Yes, they clearly have. I can see why there might be an issue next weekend in London with policing ahead of the funeral, but not this weekend. I wonder if they're now regretting making the postponement decision in haste now that other sports have decided to carry on?

As Charles will probably live until he’s 115 and as a result we will be long gone, if there is a legacy us old farts;) could leave it’s this.

Don’t let this manufactured 18th Century mourning period impact on the sporting life of the nation.

Some sports have seen the light , football needs to move on from Charles the 1st!

    Hey Ho.

How was it done in haste they waited for the guidelines and then decided. The test match was suspended for a day and golf as well. Hopefully it’s just one match which to my mind is the right way to show respect

Just have a minute silence park if that's your thing? Will they stop the football when my mum dies? NO. Think about it. They are people just like us. Part of the broader issues afoot in our society but that's probably a different debate.

By cancelling the games, thousands of football fans have been denied the chance to show their respects en masse. We will have to leave it to the rugby fans to do it for us.

It was done in haste. They made a decision to postpone on the morning after the Queen's death. Other sports waited to test the wind and decided to carry on.
The guidelines allow sport to continue. The FA and EFL have gone well beyond what the guidelines require.
The test match was pushed back one day, but will still go the full duration. And it's the last Test so it didn't impact on other matches. That's very different from taking out a whole weekend's football in a schedule that is already rammed to the gills because of the world cup.
As others have said, it would have been much more sensible to allow games to go ahead with appropriate tributes/silence etc beforehand. That shows appreciation far better than sitting at home or going shopping because there's no games to watch.
