I was just thinking the same, if the Queen pops it overnight then the match will probably be off.
Same happened when Princess Diana died if I remember rightly, some matches on the day were postponed.

Sad as though it will be, life goes on and we should continue as normal!

 

Let’s not get into the Monarchy on here but cancellation of events is nonsensical. What is out of bounds, Weddings , Christenings, going for a stroll with the dog.?

Yes, the footy was cancelled when Diana passed away. I was working at a pub at the time and we went in to clean the lines (and drink all the beer) and watch the footy. Then suddenly there was no footy! We still drank the beer though!

 

I'd quite like a day off work to be fair!

 

Good chance it gets called off.

Just hope they make a decision either way tomorrow.

 

If Saturdays games are off then so should the Europa games at Man U and West Ham tonight.

 

You only get one day off when the monarch dies? . I’d look elsewhere if I were you.

 

When Diana died the funeral was on a Saturday and City were one of a few teams to switch their game with Sunderland to Friday night. I think Mansfield and Tranmere will go ahead but if Queens funeral is next Saturday then our weekend game will be off.

she loved horse racing more than any other sport and they cancelled the racing tonight mid meeting and have canned it tomorrow - will be thousands who have travelled to Doncaster for the St Leger meeting who will be royally brassed off!

 

Euro games will be governed by Uefa not the FA though? I dont think anything should be off. Just crack on- fair enough on funeral day but just move those games.

 

This is my thinking.
People make plans, book train tickets, time off work (my lads got his first Saturday off for about five weeks so he can go to the match).
I know it’s not life and death, but as harsh as it sounds, our money, our family and social life is far more important than a non elected monarch.
It’s very sad, more so to some people than others, I don’t want that to be forgotten in my messages. But I do think that lives have to go on.

 

It is very sad. She was an admirable woman who epitomised public service. She was important to many people. She was 96, so her death was inevitable sooner rather than later. A 10 day period of mourning and this sort of TV coverage and postponement of normal activity belongs to a bygone age in my view. Yes, we should show our respect by all means, but a bit OTT I think.

 

On the day of her funeral then it’s respectful to make that a national holiday and no sporting activities to take place but are they seriously considering postponing everything for the next 10 days? If the game is cancelled on Saturday then I’d expect half of the sold tickets to be returned.
