Correct. Like most of the leading strikers in the world at any level they only offer goals and are judged and bought for that purpose. A striker who runs round the pitch working his socks off for the team is worthless without scoring goals. The Man City striker yesterday had about half a dozen touches or so in the game but converted 3 of those touches in to goals. Of course Fortdy would still say he is shite because he does not hold the ball up and track back enough

 

At times fans tend to be blinkered and don't see that is exactly what the opposition striker is doing when the opposition are trying to play it out from the back, Cook is no different, I'm sure Hughes would have something to say if he didn't chase the ball down.

Its more than just being able to put the ball in the back of the net now. You need to be able to track back, pass, tackle, beat players.

Cook overall as a footballer is poor but he can score. However, he will find himself back on the bench soon if he doesn’t up his game.

Whilst of course everybody would like a striker like that others can contribute in other ways.Jon Stead was a perfect example he wasn’t a prolific goalscorer but he was a clever footballer drawing players out of position for others to exploit winning free kicks rather than giving them away and holding the ball up. Clayton Donaldson was similar

we have no "real" strikers, a few flukey goals by Cook and everyone thinks he's Salah, He needs to be benched and brought on as a sub when we are struggling to score goals.. which will be every match lol!
