Ref had a good game. Obviously as a city fan you'd want him to give a pen for the tangle with Oliver but he wasn't certain so didn't feel he could give it. We'd be losing our sh*t if he'd given a pen for that against one of our defenders but on balance I think it was a pen. If the ref doesn't give all contentious decisions our way though they automatically get slaughtered.

Out of interest, has there ever been a period of time in the last 30 years when people have been happy with the standard of refereeing!?

That was Gurnam Singh - his dad was Jarnail Singh. Both of whom I thought were decent referees.
Thought he was poor yesterday, however.
Cook was getting pulled to the ground continually - didn’t think we got many small decisions off him yesterday let alone the big ones.

Cook was continually doing a poor impression of Windass type attempts at getting free kicks. Ref wasn't buying it. None of them looked like fouls.

Sure I've read on twitter that Crewe had conceded at least 1 goal away from home in their last 26 games.
If that's correct it highlights our glaring shortcomings.

Call it micro analysis if you like, but it doesn't alter the fact the guy strolled past him. On more than one occasion it was one on one, from my recollection

Well for a start there must be 26 teams with a more potent strike force than ours.

Would have given that to either team had it been outside the area........

Over the past 11 completed seasons, an average of around 82 points has been needed to finish in the top three, although 79 points was good enough on a couple of occasions and last season 80 got Bristol Rovers up, but Northampton, with the same points, but poorer goal difference failed.

So 72 points is far too low for automatic promotion.

Even 80 points is too low a margin for safety. We need 82!

So an average of around 1.8 points per game over a whole season.

However as we are now only on 8 points after 6 games, we will need an average of 1.85 points a game.

The longer we start to drift away from the target, the harder it gets.

6 games in and it's all doom and gloom already. Let's have a bit of perspective. There's 40 games left and 120 points still to play for. Stop. Panicking.

Yes he gave us very little yesterday especially when their central defender dragged Oliver to the floor, the old memory needs a little jogging now a days, yes it was Gurnam upload_2022-8-28_17-9-29.jpeg now I see the picture of him, I can't remember the incident @trevor@trevor is taking about here; https://bantamtalk.com/index.php?threads/bradford-city-vs-crewe-alexandra-saturday-27-august-3-00pm.6434/page-12#post-676269

I loved Steve Baines during his time in black, played the game and was quite happy to tell the players who were trying to con him, get up son been there seen it done it, he stood for no nonsense, but you're correct overall referees don't have it easy.

He had a good game overall but when you make crucial mistakes which video evidence shows clearly were mistakes then the marks go down drastically

Considering 23 of of those games were in L1 last season - then yes, you're correct. Not certain of the relevance. People seem to forget that we've three attacking options currently injured and all would have been either playing or on the bench.

I thought he was poor. He was another who you could tell was going to prove that he could perform in front of a big home crowd, without giving in to them. That inevitably means their's a subconscious bias not to give 50/50's in our favour.

Doesn't excuse our dopey play at times.

I'm talking about in general. Most fans would automatically say 'no, it's shocking'. Up and down the land you'll get the same answer on every single forum and it'll always be the case because a lot of fans simply can not accept any decisions that don't go their way.

I thought his name might crop up. He was unashamedly bias in our favour. The Bolton away game in 98/99 being the case in point. The truth is that's what fans consider to be a good ref.
