Lloyds longterm background should have taught him 'Don't bite the hand that feeds you !'

 

We forget that it is a job. A job with a very short life span.

You could spin this another way.

He can work near home, earn more money and be around his friends and family. Whilst at the same time retaining his business connections for his long term future.

Or

He could move away from where he is comfortable, away from family and friends, earn less money, find it more difficult to keep his local business contacts but, possibly, get more glory and possibly play at a higher level and possibly in the long term earn more money.

To some extent you have to applaude his pragmatism.

Interesting question earlier in the thread about Lloyd's career and what he can achieve in it. The project at Salford seems to go a little bit deeper than just throwing money at it. If you look at the players currently in the Salford squad, the majority of them are from Salford, Greater Manchester, Lancashire. I'm not sure if this is a defined part of the plan at Salford but Lloyd may see more glory in firing a local side, made up of local lads, up the leagues than being a squad player somewhere he has no affinity with.

Of course, a healthy pay cheque helps.

 

My personality and drive would have had me agreeing with you WB and wanting to play at the highest possible level for as long as possible but maybe that's not Lloyds motivation.

You say he could earn better money next year or the year after but who knows what the future holds. A loss of form, injury or even personal issues could all ensure his career falters so maybe he's just taking the security for his family right now and putting his personal ambitions second?

(Assuming he has a family of course, I obviously know nothing of his personal situation).

 

All fair comments, wouldn't be my style personally though Marriott is a player I'd rather commend than a mercenary which is all he is. Any one who calls £80k peanuts after been given the chance he has can be nothing else.

 

Good analogy and immediately made me think of Colin Doyle who is now faced with trials at clubs to prove himself, very probably moving 200 plus miles that could involve either him uprooting his entire family or living apart out of a hotel, maybe on less money.

All because he didn't accept the offer we made him.

That would be a ridiculously good signing for this level. Get him in as an experienced right winger, sell Wyke and re-invest part or all of that money in an experienced striker and get a back up keeper and we should be there or thereabouts.

Funny what can happen when you get the structure and team you want in place.. Had a feeling we would see some money spent this summer when Edin was comfortable with the team he has in place

If the former there may be something in it, if the latter then er.....it's HITC and I'm not believing it yet!

 

I will file Scannell under "believe it when I see it". It would be yet another exciting signing.

None of this building for the future nonsense. If we have Payne in midfield and Scannel out wide aswell as a decent front man it would be an absolute travesty if we failed to reach the playoffs. Our recruitment this summer has been impressive.

 

Judging by some of the players we've been able to draw to us compared to last season, I'd say most of the Wyke money will have already been spent in advance.

 

I think he is part of HITC however he knows his stuff.. He commented we were getting Seedorf about 2 weeks before we did. He clearly has contacts

 

I take it this will be another loan signing as so far no transfer fee has been paid for players this season.

Robinson,Seedorf and Gibson, going to be stocked at winger, somebody is going to miss out on game time.
