East is no Watt. If Walker is out long term we need a new CAM. Sutton, Gillead, Songoo and East aren’t the Answer.

Chapman was carrying an injury and nearly didn't start

If you don't have the personnel then you simply can't just go any formation you like. We looked like a fish out of water going 4-4-2. I know it's some folks comfort blanket but it gave us absolutely nothing for 45.minutes. if anything it made the game even easier for Crewe who looked better after we'd gone 4-4-2

    Because chapman doesn't suit 4-4-2.

Thought he did alright to be fair. Crewe defended pretty well but Chapman was busy running at them when he could. Second half we were poorer than the first.

On that performance, we'll finish just above mid table. It was a sobering display!

Young was awful at Colchester, whom received much of the ball. Today he received to many balls played long and was bullied.

Its real obvious to me. We play short across the back and across DM but as soon, as we attack, we play long with little direct synergy between midfield and attack.

The lack of quality in the final third was alarming today. The only bright spark was Banks.

Defence looks very settled and hardly been tested in the home league games.

I thought we missed the drive of Gillead today, East is tidy enough, but too similar to Smallwood to play together.

I hope we can pluck a pacy winger from somewhere next week.

Lots of faults today and can't be assed picking holes from it, but not the end of the world. If we can grind a win next week then it's a good return over the 2 home games and we move on. If we don't win next week then we'll cross that bridge then, but for now I'm hanging my hat on todays result based on how we follow it up.
    Long long way to go.

The team have shown they can get the right results, but 6 games in and we have half as many points as Leyton Orient. We need more consistency game to game. I think this team can get us to a better place in the league table by 10 games in, but I want to be seeing us winning the next 4 games ideally. 12 Points from the next 4 league games. It's possible and we are gonna do it! (I hope)

    COME ON CITY!!! :D :D

I have to disagree with a lot of the over reaction from people on here. Yes we had the possession but could not unlock a Crewe defence who were well drilled in their game plan. For those saying Hughes is not the manager to get us out of this division, you really need to get a grip.
Rather than jumping on the keyboard and criticising you probably should watch the whole game again and then make your comments. Previous seasons we would have lost that game but we stayed in it to the end.
We lacked the likes of Gillihead and Walker today, those are the types of player that will win us games like that, a goal in the first half would have changed that game.

I'm sure in the most the only fans panicking asking for drastic actions are a clueless minority group.

I agree with your call for a bit of perspective but the concern is that on today's performance, we don't look like a team who will get promoted. I'd have preferred to batter Crewe, create a ton of chances and lose. The performance was indicative of complete mediocrity.

Agreed. East and Smallwood are too similar. Both play like we’re 3-0 up.

We've scored more goals at Hartlepool than we have in all our 3 home games put together....

He’s a winger Roger. Spent nearly all his career there.

    injured today apparently.

Only 6 pages on a match thread. Funny what happens when we don’t win or lose.

I may be part of a clueless minority group but today's performance was poor. We had plenty of possession but little guile and couldn't therefore convert possession into goals.

It was so reminiscent of the second half against Donny after they had gone down to 10 men. Again, we had lots of possession but couldn't create many chances against a well organised and resolute defence whose aim was to slow down the game to their advantage. Crewe played in a similar fashion today when they were defending.

Unfortunately, we don't appear to have learned anything from the Donny game and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if other teams adopt similar tactics when visiting VP. We need to do something different and for that to be done quickly in learning how to take the game to defensively minded teams. If we don't learn the lessons, we'll be also rans once again.

That explains his subbing then- thanks.

with that in mind, im surprised we went 4-4-2 then. Young on his weaker foot offered nothing more than Angol had on the left in the first half.

The two full backs on our bench have better crossing ability than the two we’ve been starting, too.

banks looked the only City threat today. Depressing performance.
