Hughes identified that if it was a double break (which it is), then there was likely to be the issue of ligament damage to add. He has broken two bones rather than one twice, that again will add to the issue. I would anticipate 8-12 months to possibly return to full match fitness.

I wasn't there on Saturday, but I've just watched the video a number of times. Ravenhill goes in fast and low and does get all of the ball. It looks like the damage is the speed of tackle, but it doesn't look malicious, unlike Gray's on Watson which (I've seen again very recently) and was a very deliberate attempt to hurt Watson.

Really feel for Paddy, hope he recovers well, but it will be a long process for him.

You could be right. The quickest recovery I can find, from a tibia & fibula break is Djibril Cissé, who was back playing at the top level just 5½ months after his injury. Others, like Aaron Ramsey and Luke Shaw, were quite a bit longer (9 / 10 months).

I broke my tib and fib whilst playing and had surgery the following day and was weight bearing 6 weeks later. With the physio team at city caring for him everyday he will make a faster recovery than I did as I wasn't even given physio at all and I was able to start playing again 12 months later. The one problem with breaking your leg and returning to football is the psychological element and making that first big challenge , some players can't overcome it and give up playing and some persevere and eventually forget.

Don’t like to differ General but even though he got the ball it was the follow through. In my opinion reckless, out of control all equals red.
From what I’ve seen that other proponent of the Dark Arts Steve Evans had one of his involved in a two footed tackle at Tranmere and escaped a red also.

The needlessness for a reckless tackle like that hasn't really been talked about either. It was in a nothing position on the pitch, from the angle of his tackle when sliding in, even if he wins the ball and no injury occurs it just goes out for a city throw. His team doesn't get possession back, there was nothing to gain from sliding in at that speed with that force at that time in the game, other than an old school 'let him know you're there early doors' mentality.

I saw the highlights on sky for L1 & 2 after the Sunderland game, that was another pointless tackle without a red from the officials. Someone mentioned Vernam above, saying he didn't even get in the Lincoln team this weekend.... he picked up a knock in their last pre season game. Talented lad but he gets far too many muscle injuries.

Off topic I know but agree and it’s rarely a one game miss with Chas.

I watched the new EFL football show on ITV and they didn’t even discuss the tackle on Osadebe. The discussion was just about the sending off of Tomlin and he thought the ref got that wrong. Bring back Colin Murray

The Quest programme was excellent. Its ITV4 replacement was nowhere near as good.

To be fair, if that exact challenge had been made without the resulting broken bones, we wouldn't be discussing the challenge at all or indeed the subsequent yellow card.

You never see bad injuries repeated on TV, so they would have no need to discuss it as the audience wouldn’t have a clue what they were talking about?

The chap who i know is next to him in the ward said he’s had a clean break and his surgeon said it’s not as bad as first thought.

It showed the challenge but they never discussed if it should be a red card. Colin Murray would have done.

also, isn't Diamond another central player? We were looking a bit congested in there as it was on Saturday. I think it's an out and out wide man we need.
