Officials announced. Scottish ref, Bobby Madden - previously of SFA and the UEFA has transferred to the EFL.

Be interesting to see how he compares. He was officiating the Old Firm only last season.

He is a very experienced referee who has officiated in many high profile matches. Probably better for an opening fixture than a rookie who wants to prove big crowds don't influence him.

Might be worth bunging a few quid on red card at any time for this Saturday. EFL refs have been instructed by the FA to clamp down on player time wasting and player behaviour. They've been issued to hand out yellow cards for things like blatant time wasting, including keepers holding onto the ball and other laws that are usually given some space.

Usually in the past when refs are told to ramp up on laws a the start of the season, they over correct. Like in the first few weeks of the prem, theres always a few penalties for corner grabbing rules or VAR playing by the letter of the law. Might be a few questionable yellows for the first few weeks until enough complaints come in.
