    I really don't like all this chinese whisper stuff. If this supposed new player is such a big thing , why wait until the season ticket deadline has well gone. unless the thinking is it will prompt sales at the higher price and would you not want the guy away with you on the warm weather bonding trip.

    True. But with Smallwood, there are links to Gent and a close friendship with Chapman. With Wells, there's no link to Hughes, which is apparently the big factor here. Same with Delph and in both cases, they'd have better offers higher up.

    Whoever it is, if its real, I can only see it being an ex player of Hughes.

    The more I think about it, the more Shane Long makes sense.

    Forget Wells or Delph or even Long. It all points towards ..... Wayne Rooney!

    Rooney really would be a big signing... iin both senses
    We're looking for a 15-20 goals striker. He's done that a few times
    Having already accumulated a small fortune, his wage demands will be modest
    He's connected to Hughes via Man U old boys club
    He's a close(ish) neighbour of Hughes' for car sharing
    He's recently left Derby probably in anticipation of the forthcoming announcement
    Sparks has sweetened the deal with Derby to play a friendly at VP when the 'big' signing will be unveiled
