Fair play Dave, I’m pretty much on the optimistic side and always keep my candle dry when recruits arrive. Where they come from bears not much thinking on my mind other than the likes of Smallwood, who is a pedigree player , with a pedigree CV. On the other hand the likes of the two from Barrow and H/pool , as you say could be stand out players or just as heavily dross within dross. However!

I put great stead in the ability of Gent tbh. Let’s face it , he’s done all his recruiting in the CC for a number of years. Just look at the long list of Boro players out on loan to L1 clubs as well as those populating their first team squad. I’m more than happy the homework and due diligence has been done. Remember he’s committing the club to 2-3 year multiple deals. He’s got to be at the top of his game. Hughes and Hodges did a great job in turning round , what we all realised was a basket case of a squad after they had seen three managers in short order mess with training, style , tactics and mainly , but not all, toilet block recruitment.
If he can do miracles with those, can I be optimistic he can do it with nearly a 50% new ( and quality) team of recruits. Let’s say I am more than hopeful.

It's so weird on here when it's deemed as negative to say 'I'm not sure how the season will go'.

    Isn't it a bit childish?

Rember what Peterborough do, their recruiting model we all rave about, pick up released players from Prem Academies who linger in the lower echelons of lower league football, develop them and sell them on for silly money.
Where did Odusina get released from ??? Norwich, a Peterborough hunting ground. Hence the three year deal?

Beware Dave, they were raving about him at the start of 2022, he’s left them and all of a sudden he’s not to their liking? Where have we seen it before?

We only have to look at the comments made about Watty?

After so many recent let downs it is fair to say that there would be a certain degree of pessimism in regard to the recruitment agenda. But this time around we really have a quality management structure and most would agree that we are moving in a better direction. Surely, 'Reasons to be Cheerful'..Mark 2! Well I am more optimistic now and belief is slowly returning on the back of recent transfer business.

Odusina pacy and a decent tackler and passer Platt dominating in the air sounds like a match pair. With Songo who was great there towards the end of last season

That is like saying Shergar was brilliant at a mile, but unproven at a mile and half:)

That’s fair but the strange phenomenon is Critchlow……..I can’t see it but dare I suggest he’s going three at the back, or just rotate the defenders based on the opponent’s?
    An embarrassment of riches?

We've got a famous manager so they are bound to improve exponentially.

Im glad someone else can see past the hype created by the clubs social media comms and the ease on which our fanbase gets carried away with.

But how many times did that basket case of a club batter teams, go one up and then sit back? They would not have done that under MH.

    Love this quote:

I like timi, he was a cavalier, high energy defender who put a shift in during games. On the down side he sometimes made silly mistakes and could still show a bit of naivety and wasn’t quite the finished product in the aerial department, but his dogged persistence countered this and you had to admire his full commitment, unlike some of the statues he played alongside.

I can’t imagine we paid a fee and offered a three year deal to someone who we hadn’t done extensive research on beforehand.

Very true , the same every season and probably the same hysteria elsewhere. We’ve signed a lot of L2 standard players but they have age on their side. It’s a new approach, players who can develop and potentially move up the leagues with the club, it’s an exciting strategy but doesn’t make us shoe ins for promotion.

Agree. But I like others cannot ignore the limited data available. It feels like I'm having a pop at Timi but it's that triangle at the back. No doubt we have quality further upfield.

Who knows, @Fordy117@Fordy117 may have a point on the two year plan!!!
