I think he was definitely renowned for getting the best out of senior players.

Elliot Watt being a senior player.

It's testament to the manager and the club that the reaction to this isn't as wild as it might have been. In years gone by this would have happened and added to the many holes in the squad and heaped more pressure on the club to recruit well as the season approaches. The impact of Watt's decision is negated by the fact we have been proactive with our recruitment rather than reactive.

As others have said, it's a short career so I don't blame him for opting for what is probably a bit more money. Will be interested to see how he goes, no doubting the ability in some aspects of his game. But the fact he's had a team built around him for two seasons and both seasons have resulted in a bottom half finish suggests there's still a lot of improvement to be found.

I wouldn't regard someone with 2 seasons of regular first team football as a senior player.

I hope we beat Salford home and away but I also hope Watt doesn’t get abused
I know what our lot are like
Beat them and keep hush regards Watt
He will know he made the wrong move

If I’m honest after my initial rant I’m already over it. In a few years time he’ll be another non-descript league 2 player we’ve had in our 9 years in league 2 in my lifetime. We ended 15th and 14th during his legendary spell, the decks have been well and truly cleared.

Not fussed about this. Frustratingly inconsistent - brilliant for 5 games, poor for 5 games, and repeat.

We’ve certainly had more memorable midfielders over the years.

But, good luck to him. He might be earning a bit more money and I get that he fancies a change of scenery, but professionally it’s very much a sideways move.

Also he’s more than halved his commuting time. He lives over Preston way so doesn’t have to endure the M62 everyday.

reading comments about wanting a ‘fresh challenge’ heart clearly wasn’t in it, and at times this came across on the pitch.

shame to see Watt not hit his potential with bcfc, missed opportunity but it gives others who want to be here a chance.

Little disappointed in the lad. This move is clearly about money. His game would have come on leaps and bounds playing alongside Smallwood with Hughes as Manager, not some guy who has come from Man utd's backroom.

Apart from his time at Old Trafford working with the U23 what sucsess has Wood had as a manager, good luck to the lad I don't thinks it's about development more to do with ££££££ which again I don't have problem with but to comment "The big thing for me was I wanted a fresh start and also to play under a coach who I felt can improve me" IMO that's a little unessasary in the few games under Hughes I'd say apart from the Colchester fiasco I thought we improved as a team more or less game on game.

I bet he spat his dummy out after being rollocked last season. I like Watt. On his day he was excellent. But his form was patchy and he had some bad games at times trying the Hollywood ball and giving it away cheaply. Can imagine people having a go about that at times.

    Fair enough IMO.

Talented kid, may go on to better things - I'd hoped that might be in a better City team but can definitely understand his willingness to take a fresh start after a couple of years mired in midtable. He doesn't owe us anything and vice versa.

Yes it's a sideways move, but if it makes him happier so be it; I don't think we necessarily have better chances than Salford.

At least we get a nominal fee of some sort, so that's good.

Gary Neville: "We've gone and got the top coach from United, you'll really come along under Woody, and we're going up this season - everyone has their eyes on Salford City and we'll offer you more money"

This is probably what he was promised lol, the fact Salford haven't really moved anyone on to a bigger club OR achieved promotion from League Two despite continually bringing people over from Man U kind of tells it's own story.

If he really said that, then the men in white coats should come knocking. Playing for Hughes won't improve him ??? Neil Wood might have academy experience but this is his first managerial role and I guarantee you if Salford aren't top six come Christmas he will be sacked.

There is only one reason for this move and its ££££££.

I wish him well, but he's either blind, deluded, or very badly advised. I think the latter, and this is the problem with agents who only see the money trail not the players potential.

Yeah that doesnt make sense. Going to a manager with no experience to a manager whos coached internationals. Sometimes it's best not to say anything otherwise you just make yourself look daft
