Fair point on his first touch or even at other times his touch is just a bit too heavy and could end up in one of those red card jumping in scenarios

 

It was obvious to anyone who's read up on the after affects of Covid on certain athletes, that Sutton was not the same when he came back.

Lot's of us pointed out the the dipping of energy towards the end of matches in January etc, had to coincide with Covid. This wasn't excuse making, it is just sheer fact - some elite athletes (and that's what professional footie players are) have taken a long while to recover fully. In fairness, Adams never used it as an excuse.

So I think Hughe's statement shows a manager who understands each of his players and has probably seen the 'before and after' stats for Sutton - hence why he didn't play much under him.

And the fact there was L1 interest, shows that plenty think he's a decent player.

So it's good he's re-signed

 

Which shows he didn't have the fitness to start matches. Let's remember that Hughes took over nearly two months after the Covid bout.

He came back after Covid, played a few games - played terrible, as did all the team. And then barely played. Clearly because the staff realised that his fitness levels had suffered, leading to niggles, struggle to get fit etc.

 

Shouldn’t be on the bench if not fit, Hughes obviously deemed him fit enough at the time for the squad he was in nearly every match day squad but only started 3 times.

 

L1 interest?. By whom?

 

The T&A interview doesn't say other than a few L1 clubs and most of them were down south.

From recollection there was one match when I think Sutton got injured in training and wasn't even on the bench. When asked about it Hughes said Sutton had been due to start. Anyway, regardless of all that, personally I'm happy he's re-signed. Sure we still need some higher quality players in there, but we can't have a whole squad of big earners. I like Suttons positivity and unpredictability. He is always looking to go forward, although granted that sometimes leads him down blind alleys. One thing that I think may have caught the managers attention is the runs he makes off the ball. He makes some great runs from midfield behind the defence which last season generally went unrewarded. I think a sharper footballing team will pick those runs up better. Maybe not the first name on the sheet but an asset in my opinion.

interest does not mean a solid contract offer, but i think many individual players could make the move up to league one
Personally i like levi, he is a hard working type and you need some of that in the squad, lets hope he has fully recovered from the covid.
