I'd be sorry to see him go to be honest. He's a committed lad who gives 100% and on his day hes a very good player for this level. With a more positive, confident atmosphere he could thrive but I do think he'll struggle to get a start with Walker in the building.

More than happy to have him in the squad but might not be feasible for wage requested

Was that David Sochon by any chance?

Unlikely I know but I thought I'd ask anyway

Cooke is a decent footballer at this level but too slow now for what we need having signed Walker.

We need a player now who is quicker on and off the ball than Cooke in the midfield area that can start or come off the bench.

Just watch the 9 mins highlights of the Carlisle game on YouTube to see how good Walker is at arriving in the box. He’s a class above Cooke.

Looking at the Stats, then for an ‘attacking’ midfielder, the number of goals he has scored is notably low, to say the very least. Ignoring the U23/U19, then he has apparently played 184 senior games over four clubs. In that time he has only scored 13 goals. I like him on the ball, but quite frankly we need goals from an ‘attacking’ midfielder. His career average seems to be about 1 goal in 14+ games. It seems to me as though he passes rather than shoots and fails to attack the penalty box. I think he probably needs a fresh start. Good luck to the lad, I certainly would not boo him if he returns with another club. https://www.transfermarkt.com/callum-cooke/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/258882

On the basis of his stats, he's gradually got worse as his career has gone on.
When you get released by a club finishing 14th in League 2, you don't have too many more chances.

He's from Lincoln, they are in the league above, he will probably get more wages and supposedly Carrick is due to take over. I wouldn't blame him moving on, and that's the issue we will always have being in league 2

He's definitely gone backwards since he's been with us. When he receives the ball he now seems to take much too long to decide what to do with it, far too often turning and playing it backwards or getting caught in possession. He very rarely gets involved in quick, short one-two passing moves, unlike Walker. I used to rate him, but I now think we need players who can react quicker, link play better, run off the ball faster and score more goals from midfield than Cooke has ever done.

Agreed, if you are playing one up front, three goals from a number 10 is not good enough. We need double figures from someone in that role which doesn't look out of the question for Walker.

:sleeping::sleeping: Lincoln have been far more successful than us over recent years. Bore off with this crowd nonsense.
Jamie Walker didn’t sign for us because of the crowds and nor does any other player peddling that crap. It’s a PR stunt that the club milk.
If crowds meant anything then the two clubs in last nights league 1 playoffs would easily be Prem teams.

So as i said in another post, the power of positivity. Walker made his mind up to sign after the Carlisle match.
The love in he got as he left the pitch was a powerful force.

I'm sure the reaction he got when leaving the pitch on Saturday convinced him he'd made the right decision, but given he has a wife and young family to consider uprooting, I'm not buying that he only made up his mind after the Carlisle game and then got everything signed, sealed and delivered the very next day. It's a romantic notion to think it was the fans that clinched it, but I strongly suspect it was already pretty much a done deal before Saturday.

I am not suggesting , he signed just because of the fans. The whole package has to be correct.
Just that the fans helped push the decision the right way, the lad felt wanted, which goes a long way.

In today's T&A article Walker states he hadn't decided before the match but the way the match went and the reaction from the crowd to him made his mind up that he wanted to stay. He met his agent straight after the game (already pre-arranged) and said he wanted to stay.

His wife has been responded to messages on Twitter and has said they're going to move down

Hopefully he will get his family settled in down here as quickly as possible and he can hit the ground running again with us in August

I actually don't find that too hard to imagine, he phones his wife after the game and says 'this is the right move', she supports the idea, and decision gets made.

Then 3 months down the line she says you made us leave Edinburgh for this! He must be a sweet talker.

Wife and kids did that for me 30 years ago. Brilliant job offer in London…..We upped sticks from Bradford……never looked back . That move paid huge dividends for us in oh so many ways. Do I miss the Dolly and VP still….. you bet I do!

But they don’t have to live anywhere near to Bradford to get rural life, great schools etc.
