Our lack of central midfield players is going to be a significant problem today if the first ten minutes are anything to go by.

 

They've played two great balls inside Foulds already.

 

Wow I’d hate to be a Colchester fan, their stadium has no redeeming features and the atmosphere reminds me of last season behind closed doors. Has a training match feel to it.

Quite interesting to watch Threlkeld in comparison to Hendrie.

Hendrie will pass and run forwards looking for a pass back or to create space for someone by taking a defender with him.

By comparison Threlkeld passes and stops. He doesn't even look like he's considering going forwards. Just makes the game more stationary and slow.

Why did he run to the point of the six yard box and stop? Why didn't he close down the guy who was controlling the ball?

And then he just jumps on the spot and shrugs his shoulders. Haul him off!! Wastenof space.

These games are as much about Hughes learning what players can’t do, as much as what they can do.

And in Threlkeld’s case, the answer is ‘play football’
