Match Thread Port Vale (H) @ 15:00 19th March

That's how I read today's game. A pivotal position in the middle missing and it lead to a formation change that had us going back to hoofball for most of the game. Disappointing but its all about the planning for next season.

 

Rayner probably wants that winner Hamilton or whatever the freak is called these days to play with his gear stick.

 

Raynor is still in adulation mode at having Hughes to interview, he surely had to ask Mark about 3 home defeats since he came in! They have all been against play off teams which show the distance we still have to go.
The 2 away results gave us hope and invaluable breathing space but MH himself must now know the players as a group are mid table at best

 

If only lardy cook would win a header or shoot like a striker we’d been ok… pathetic excuse for a striker.. needs dropping

 

He needs to get his head out of his Arsenal. I’m so bloody angry! Can someone get the message to him that football fans don’t just watch football the utter two hat!

 

But it’s not match fitness, it’s mobility , two different things altogether FB!

Agree with most of that apart from Bass. It was terrible goalkeeping to allow a shot from that angle to beat him for the 2nd

 

I’d rather we try and win every game rather than bring in some of the youngsters who aren’t up to it. We need to finish the season as positively and strongly as possible. If we let it drift aimlessly, the negativity might set in. I don’t think any of the youth players would’ve got anywhere near the port vale players today.

 

Enjoyed the game and for big parts we were competitive but Port Vale look a good side and deserved the win.

He is most articulate EFL footballer I've heard this season.

It has all been said, so no point in repeating. Frustrating yet again! I still want us to get momentum going so we finish well, hopefully we can do that. The only criticism I have is Walker and Vernam should have been on earlier, but MH is still getting to know the players. On the plus side I am loving the posh seats, you get a great view and can see the pattern of play much more clearly. I thought PV were good at what they do and we didn’t have an answer.

 

that defending was Sid of the Sunday league ...... first goal ......never seen that ever on a footy field at this level.

 

Agree with all your points Onside. What did you think of PV’s big lads up front more like second rowers.

 

Watching a Hughes team get beaten at home is a lot more entertaining than watching an Adams team get beaten at home.

I can't say I begrudge Vale the 3 points today, they deserved it over the 90 minutes and had we lost 0-2 then I could have lived with the result but having pulled a goal back, the manner of that decisive 2nd Vale goal is going to be a sore one for a long time.
