To add to my previous post we need the right message delivered with this appointment now.

The aim will always be promotion out of this Khazi league but if we state from day one of his appointment he is here to overhaul the whole club from a medical point of view right through to training methods and scouting. You name it let him do it and Sparks sticks to increasing the budget, then fans will buy into it.

We have long needed an overhaul and it feels a little like we have combined DoF with a manager now. It had to be done. Let’s concentrate some of our money on the background team too. Get some proper coaches in, some proper quality medical staff and sports scientists and then look after our players and make them fitter and it will only benefit us on the pitch longer term. Once all that is set up then we can increase the playing budget and get the right calibre of player in. it’s long been neglected

As for your last sentence, thoroughly agree. Whomever, works at the club has the restrictions of being a league 2 club

Very surprising appointment, completely out of left field, but in a good way rather than in a Michael Collins way.

My concerns would be the standard of player he's worked with before compared with what's currently available and what he's been told about transfer funds versus what he actually gets to spend. The squad needs overhauling (again) and it's going to take some time and money to do it. He's definitely got his work cut out.

To be fair Simon, I don't think it's about Hughes' managerial prowess, it's about getting a football man into the club.

Surely he knows what a professional club should look like from the inside, as opposed to the chap from tiny Morecambe.

How does an unambitious club, who doesn't back managers, has a tea boy as CEO and Lord Lucan as Owner pull off a stunt like this ? I think some of you on here have massively underestimated what both Rupp & Sparks are capable of or want to achieve.

Quick close the protest thread. Only a first rate fool would still want to go ahead with that after appointing such a high profile manager. It would be like protesting against Maggie on the basis she took away free milk in 1974.

He might not have demanded high wages for himself and I don’t know his personal wealth, but he may have sacrificed that for concrete assurances on investment in players etc., just a thought.

 

Funnily enough, I watched a clip of a podcast from Paddy Kenny this morning, who said he was a strange Manager.

Very aloof. Wouldn't even say 'Good Morning' to the players. Just walked past them in the corridor.

 

We aren't competing against the likes of Klopp though. This is about changing the look and feel and dejection of a club. These are not premiership players. If he gets someone like Bowen who is meant to be top top notch then Division 2 this will be a massive step up.

 

If it isn't then its organisers need rounding up and sending to Kiev to help defend The Ukraine.
