Reading the article it is suggested there is a release clause in his contract so the club met that figure but the individual turned down the contract offer either because the offer was lower than he wants or he doesn't want to move to that club.

 

Yeah sounds like it's down to the player this one. Weird at 23 to sign a 2 year deal at a Tier 6 club, looked after himself by having a release clause to EFL clubs, but then turns down a move to the pro level?

Might fancy being a big fish in a small pond the season and evaluate in the summer? Didn't realise Darlington get such decent crowds for that level, about 1,500 at home games, can't imagine there's a great traveling fan base at that level? Rochdale averaging 2,775 at home this season including away fans... not exactly a bigger fan base.

 

Perhaps that first offer is just the first offer and he believes other clubs will come in? Maybe he'll end up having to go back to it of others don't put an offer in?

 

This might be his only chance to move back up into the FL and maybe he has his sights higher than whoever he’s just turned down rather than accepting the first offer on the table.

in his shoes, he’ll know scouts have been there and his agent will be trying to bargain to get them both the best deal.

 

So he turned down Rochdale hoping for a bigger club and more money?

Just had a look at Darlingtons training complex, pretty decent for their level.... paps all over our school.

He'll be used to a poor complex, Newcastles training and academy facilities are well known as one of the worst in the PL. Not been touched in 20 years. In Alan Shearers interview with Neville he said he's seen league one and two clubs with better stae of the art facilities than Newcastle have.... dont think he's been down Apperley Bridge yet.

 

He would be able to see the seats this saturday, about 17,000 of 'em...

Wonder why we never seem to like to Ireland for talent, we didn't even when we were in League One, which seems crazy to me...
