For those underwhelmed by this, Northampton paid £200k for him in January, "team" Edin have signed him for free on less money than on offer from West Brom. He's a Yorkshire lad who at 29 should be hitting his prime as a goalkeeper, Northampton fans not happy he's gone, great addition to the squad potentially a big improvement on Doyle. Let's face it we only rated Doyle cos the two back up keepers were gash!!

Not read the whole thread but where have you got £200k from. A quick look online says his transfer from Rotherham to Northampton was for an undisclosed fee. Could have been a quid like Doyle for all i know.

Good post until your Doyle comment, a very capable keeper on his day.

You're correct the back up keepers were very poor, lets hope the next keeper they bring in is not just back up in a crucial position, but offers competition for O'Donnell.

 

Apart from Fordy, can you show me anyone who is underwhelmed by this, otherwise it makes your post redundant.

 

Just read Parker's piece in the T&A and O'Donnell says he has known about our interest for a few weeks. Wonder if Doyle still being here was a stumbling block in getting the deal done sooner ? He clearly wanted to sign for a club where he would be first choice not back up, and might have been a bit unsure that would be the case if Colin was still around.

 

I think we would have been talking with him not knowing if Doyle would sign I'd guess once he agreed to come then we'd have withdrawn our offer to Doyle

 

As a premiership club if you signed Ben Foster, Butland or Fabianski what would your thoughts Be? It's your lack of knowledge which is making it meh not the keepers ability

 

Looks like we pulled the trigger on Doyle possibly around when the reported interest from WBA came to light? Loooks like we had to move quickly.

Maybe City were waiting until Doyle returned from his holiday but had little choice.

 

Massively agree. To me, this is a very very decent signing. Get the feeling the summer business is installing a bit more confidence in some supporters and I really believe this should add even more.
Others wouldn’t be pleased if signed Liverpool’s front 3.

 

Just watched the video of his introduction to City, good interview, really wanted to come for awhile, that’s always a plus. Another positive is he is the best looking man we have signed, might have to migrate to the kop so I can watch him close up:thumbsup:

My first thoughts were; when Colin was offered his new contract, he was possibly told he would not be automatic first choice, which could explain his reticence to sign.

 

I've seen it mentioned somewhere online. I can't recall where.

 

View from a Northampton fan on a general forum:
We'd have been relegated long before had it not been for him. Pulled off some amazing saves, good command of his box, a very good league 1 keeper.

Also just thinking, he must have got MOM about 8 times for us between January and the end of the season.

 

He had a great game against us for Northampton, Quality signing imo.

 

C'mon. The World Cup hasn't finished yet. Probably waiting to see who performs.
