Your opinion revolves entirely around ifs and buts though.

Your method reaches 'maybe' 'might' and 'could' before mine.

If and its a big if, just putting it out there..

Lets say Wyke is sold for £1m+, and that money is reinvested in the team with the addition of 2/3 quality players then is that a sign that Edins model is actually showing a sign of working? Just merely in the sense of us signing a player showing potential, for a fee, developing him a bit more and then selling on for a profit to strengthen the side elsewhere

Yes. That is he whole point of the plan.

There's a lot of chance in it; 1) getting the right player in the first place (IE; Wyke) and 2) then reinvesting the profit properly.

They've been open about it and this is exactly what is meant to happen. For it to pay dividends we're going to have to get through 2 or 3 players making £500k+ each time.

Its new to us as a fan base, but something we'd need to get used to.

Yes, IF we get those 2/3 quality replacements in which of course, there are no guarantees about in the same way there are no guarantees Wyke would go on to be a success at his new club if he moved or that he would continue to be a success here if he stayed.

We got fortunate with Wyke that his release clause was we below his market value at the time and that NOBODY else came in for him. So to answer your question, i'd say no because it's not really sustainable in the long run. Are there currently any striker available who scored 20+ goals in the league who have a small release clause in their contract? I don't think so.

The success of the model revolves around our scouting.

If that's pap, we won't make money.

If it's great, we could make a fair whack (at the expense of our first team) .

According to the T&A Bolton tried to sign Wyke In January

Quite right Jon, in addition if we sign 2 players around the £500k mark then great, the owners are giving the model a chance of succeeding. However if they try replace with a £250k striker and pocket the rest we will go downhill rapidly. We will soon know, if, and when Wyke goes!

Maybe not, but who knows. Id say it was harsh to say we simply got lucky. Greg probably did his homework based on his Carlisle contacts and took advantage of that, fair play to him. I dont think you can say its unsustainable when the first "product" of the model is going to be sold at a non insignificant profit. The next three taken on around that time were, gunner, patrick and robinson. Gunner probably not, patrick way off but still two years to maybe get something but given the right coaching and role then you'd expect robinson to be the next big thing and he will get us guaranteed money.. Whose to say none of the others that have followed will do the same?

I might be in the minority here but I think cashing in on Wyke this summer for circa £1M is definitely what we should be doing. I appreciate his quality at this level and he is clearly our best player, yet as long as the lions share of the money is reinvested in the squad, I hope we do it. We were too reliant on him last season, when he was out suspended or injured we showed no threat going forward.

If we do sell and it allows us to bring in 3 or 4 players of real quality at this level I think it’ll add to a the overall blend of the squad. I’d like to see it invested in a quality keeper, a quality attacking midfielder and two strikers, one old head with experience (Henderson) and a younger pacey partner (Lyle Taylor)

Lyle Taylor is supposedly on the verge of a move to Sunderland - but he’d be a good signing if we can nip in first.

I'll just repeat the same question. How many strikers can you think of who are reasonably young, scored 20+ goals last season in league 2 or higher and have a small release clause in their contract? If there isn't a decent pool of players to choose from who fit that criteria then the Charlie Wyke method of buying players and selling on isn't sustainable.

Fair point, I question how much young wingers really fetch at this level.

Strikers seem to be the only valuable players.

I don't think Wyke was a 'lucky' signing at all, I think it was very well played. The asterisk next to his signing, though, is that we did not negotiate a fee; his release clause meant we got him on the cheap, much cheaper than Carlisle would have liked.

Without those clauses, will we successfully sign equivalent players from League Two?

Whenever we've had to negotiate or compete financially, we seem to have lost out.

    Or is it my imagination?

If that was the case the whole transfer system break down. There is always players out thee. And if we got a million for Wyke which is way above his worth it could benefit the whole squad rather than one position

There are always players out there who are young with resale value, scored 20+ goals in a single season at league 2 or higher and have a small release clause in their contract?

Fire away and name them. I'll be looking forward to seeing your comprehensive list.
