I think they probably expected us to sign someone on big wages or for a transfer fee so a lot of people would fall under that umbrella

Always looked unlikely though and nothing about our transfer activity is surprising or disappointing to me it's what I was led to expect when we approached a manager who is used to operating on a shoestring

I'm disappointed we didn't sign a defender if we lose Canavan we'll fall to pieces in my opinion look how weak we look with our back up I know Adams teams concede a lot of goals but we're running a very big risk of catastrophe if he gets injured it would be bad enough if Paudie is out for a long time

Vale fans delighted we’ve taken his £2k per week wages off their budget. If that is true it’s even more shocking. Alex had his injury problems and would have been good cover at this level.

After two chastening defeats conceding five and not even scoring? I'd say a draw would be starting to get things back on track. If we conceded first then heads will drop.

 

This is the current predicament.

Within our budget we can't recruit the type of attacker we want yet the manager has said openly that he doesn't want to "grow his own" - the young ones need to be ready to play not developing.

Surely these two things will create conflict.

Agree. I also find it interesting that they express their disappointment in the same way many did about Angol, until they saw him play and suddenly changed their tune.

What an amazing concept, judging a player on his performances rather than before he’s kicked a ball for his new club. Wonder if it will ever catch on?

The conflict is us, the supporters who would absolutely crucify a manager who failed to get is promoted by using squad first team slots to develop kids. Cant have it both ways.

 

He's had so many clubs, he's never had more than 32 starts in a season, outside The Championship.

So he's hardly likely to be hitting double figures at those clubs on a regular basis.

The problem with him is clearly that he's not a 'team' man - if he was managers wouldn't be so anxious to get rid.

The problem as shown only two seasons ago, is not scoring.

We needed a goalscorer. Under the circumstances, it's a satisfactory appointment

If he was on £2k a week at Port Vale, that does not mean he’s the same here.
